So i'll be purchasing the HVX in the upcoming weeks and i just want to make sure that they arent going to come out with a new model anytime soon, otherwise i may just wait for it.

does anyone know if they have plans on a new model release or anything of the sort?

thanks!!

yeah, you just have to catch yourself when you see titles in the thread like this close to NAB...

I'd wait for after NAB, before you go buy anything.

Jan has said on more than one occasion recently that there is nothing planned for the HVX anytime soon, if I am not mistaken.

I'm more thinking of a whole other camera could be introduced at NAB which could drop the price of other cameras... you never know. I doubt it but if you're not in a rush, I'd hang out and see what happens.

All upcoming cameras that we know about are positioned above the HVX200. If you need the HVX200, get the HVX200. If you need something more, there are/will be a number of options if you have the budget.

There is no such thing as AVC HD Intra. There are AVCHD, and AVC-Intra.

AVCHD is a consumer format with GOP structures. AVC-Intra is a professional format with intra-frame compression; this is only available in the high-end cameras, and then only through a AVC-Intra processor board.

why? even if they announce a new camera, it won't come out til Q1 2008... trust me. i've witnessed this scenario play out every year for the last ten years. they quote Q3 release the same year, but it never, ever, ever happens.

If you have a project. Rent until after NAB. Even if product X is announced and it is another 30 - 90 days, at least then you will know.

Regardless of that, remember that the camera is just the beginning of your package. There is a lot more to buy or rent too.

Enjoy

If you wait until NAB, you miss the 8GB P2 card promotion. That effectively increases the cost of the camera by $1000 to $1100 if you want to shoot on P2 cards.
