New HPX-250 / 160 stuff online (example footage)

Thanks for the footage. I wonder why panasonic is keeping so mum on these cameras. I have never know any camera to have less test footage released before going on sale to the general public - very odd.

I'm really excited for the 250 - it's the perfect replacement for my HVX200. If I jump, I will be sure to post up some tests.

Especially compared to all the hype surrounding the release of the AF100!

Well, the AF100 was a ground breaking camera that had no competitors at the time of it's release. The AC130/AC160/HPX250 are more updates to/replacements for the HMC150/HPX170 than anything.

Wow. 21x zoom lens?! You put a no-light loss doubler on that and you've got a heck of a long lens.

Couple the HPX 370 sensor. Wow. That is a very attractive camera. How long til that gets to the $3000 price of a new 170? :cheesy:

It's actually a 22x lens. And there's a version of that imaging setup that will cost the same as an HPX170, it's called the AC130. It's not a P2 camera, it's AVCCAM, but it carries the same retail price as the HPX170.

I am wondering about the hype surrounding the release of the hpx250 and seeing footage. Doesn't the footage look very similar to the hpx370? I realize the 370 has a full size bayonet mount lens, but it seems to me that the main sweet things about this camera will be the size and lower price. Both have 422 10bit avc-intra...

Good to know. I've only used the P2 variants of these cameras (200 & 170) and haven't taken too close a look at the ones that use SD cards. How do the sensors compare, and do you think the compression will influence the image quality very much?

I like to pixel peep from time to time, (not that I'm technical about it at all) but I must admit, a lot of the AVC compressed stuff looks very nice. It should be similar to the GH2 in compression quality, right?

Sensors and lenses are identical. Everything from that point back is different. Compression quality is definitely going to be better on the HPX250, it'll have twice the color information and 10-bit range. Is that worth the premium over the AC130? That's a question for you to decide, of course...

Shoudl be notably better than the GH2.

Bump

Shouldn't be much question about the buzz. It's a handheld camera with a 22x zoom, for ~$5500, that records 10-bit AVC-Intra. Footage should look very similar to identical to HPX370 footage, in a camera that's half the price and a lot less expensive, and now with autofocus, a huge zoom range, optical image stabilization, and ... if it bears repeating -- it's the lowest-cost 10-bit camcorder ever...
