New HMI lamps with UV Stop

Really pumped for these to hit the market. My local supplier has said the rollout will be pretty slow until older non-UV stocks have been sold off. Being able to pull the lens away from a Fresnel when you need a point source or more output will be great. And not having to worry about UV glass covers on newer facetted reflector fixtures like the M18 will be great too.

I doubt the safety glass will be going anywhere, there's still an explosion hazard with HMI's. Although maybe it won't have to be a $1200 safety glass if it doesn't have to stop UV...

Been eyeballing these since they announced them this Spring. Cheap Chinese HMI fixtures suddenly got more appealing.

I was at my local Barbizon today picking up a demo(AadynTech Jab to compare against one of my Bron Kobold 800 HMI's) and asked about the UVS lamps. They said they are actually less expensive than the 'old' lamps.

I've never had an issue with UV light and anyone getting hurt with my fixtures(BK's have a safety pin/switch and won't work if the safety glass isn't there or cracked), but I have a friend(reporter) who got 'fried' about ten years ago by another crew, who apparently didn't have the safety glass on their HMI and had it very close to him, and he ended up in the emergency room(being tough isn't gonna stop UV light from injuring your eyes, but this guy is a freak of nature when we light him, I've never worked with anyone who seems as impervious to bright light). And one of my clients sent out an email to everyone earlier this year because a reporter and producer got their eyes 'fried' by a crew. They told everyone to check for cracks on their HMI's safety glass, make sure it's installed and even went as far as telling the photogs to put UV gels in front of the HMI's and the reporters to not get in front of the HMI's unless they saw the UV gel on them(I doubt this last one happened much, I know I don't carry any). One of my producers said when she was at one of her previous nets, all the producers carried UV blocking gel sheets and I believe the reporters, too.

Sometime in the last couple years, a janitor changed ballasted globes at a school gymnasium and didn't replace the safeties. At the next game, people up high in the stands got pretty fried, I recall some lawyers getting involved.
