New Here! DVX100a short!!

Hey Everyone!

I am new to these parts...lol...I love the community, seems like it is full of good people and wonderful help if/when needed.

I bought my DVX100a back in October and got the chance to shoot a short 15min drama in January. Finding a composer has been ROUGH! I want to submit it to festivals, so can't have copyrighted music :(

I will be posting the film up on my site for download in a week or so, but I wanted to share some stills from the film with you all. Please give feedback!

Looks pretty good, some nice compositions in there...

Color correction, at least level adjustments, would improve the look I think. It looks like you mainly used natural light, or practicals to light this?

Would like to see more, is there a trailer on the way?

Nice looking stuff, can't wait to see a clip.
You should probably post this in the "screengrabs/clips" section though. Maybe one of the Mods can move it.
Welcome to the board Morgan.

thanks guys!

it's not precticals or natural light, every bit of light you see in it is all lit...we wanted to make it look as subtle as possible, so you questioned it...which is cool...it's the idea i went for...haha!

where should i do the correcting at?

the whole film should be on my site within a week. It wont have the score in it from the festivals, but it will have the temp score in to get feedback.

Morgan,

Congrats and look forward to seeing more.

If you are going for that very subtle, naturalistic look, you've achieved it. I'm sure that will be more evident when I see more then just these images.

As far as the correcting, it's more subjective depending on what look you are going for, I think a slate curve adjustment would make some of it 'pop' a bit more, but that might not be what you want...

hey buddy,

We never stop learning in this business, which is why I'm glad us DVX users have a board/site to go to.

I have Vegas Video 5, is there a way to do the look you're speaking of in that program? If so, let me know...i can try it, if i dont like it i can always change it back.

Look of stills

Look of stills

Hey

Overall nicely composed and lit images. But for some reason it looks a little video-y to me to be DVX footage. Am I just imagining things?
Nice job, though!

id say yes...lol...cause it is a dvx, and it was in 24p. I did set the gamma right and the black compress etc....so i dunno why it would look video-y? Maybe it's just the stills, but everyone that has seen them said it looks like film, but i dunno...it's good to hear what others see

Hey Morgan,

When are you make the movie available?

I will have the final version ready soon with a COMPLETELY different score. The film will be tightened up QUITE a bit, and the 90 second credits will change. I will update for all those who want it. I want to do a small DVD release of this with outtakes, commentary, and small documentary on the making of it. That's the plan right now

thanks for asking,
Chris

I like the first and last grabs the most. They look to be the most film like. The INT. shots did not look to be lit very well, besides the one with the dude on the bed with the light hitting the back wall, that looked nice. Good compositons overall it looks pretty good.
