new HD dvx100A test footage

About the frame rates, the CCD's on the DVX are true progressive so you get 24P HD.

Remember that even with Andromeda installed, the DVX100 continues to work as usual, so there's no 'tradeoff' if you want you can record to DV while you record uncompressed, the camera doesn't even know the system is installed.

On normal DV operation, the internal processing of the camera discards over 85% of the original information recorded by the CCD's. All Andromeda does is provide the user with all the information recorded by the CCD's, and the user can put whatever look he/she wants on it. The uncompressed nature of the footage allows for the best possible environment for color correction, keying, etc.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

This device allows for total freedom for "looks" and the output looks nothing like dv tape, even in SD, the image is amazing and looks nothing like "video" as I know it.

Worth it? well its image is cleaner then the sdx900, is the $25,000 price "worth it" for that camera? if your answer is yes, I would guess $3,000 for this mod is a bargin, no?.

lovin my dvx beta mod!

Is this mod available right now? If so what is reel-streams turn around time?

How can a powerbook drive spinning at 5400rpm handle the datarate output from the DVX? Is a firewire800 or SATA raid required?

Thanks,
Billy

The turnaround time once we receive the camera will be under a business week. Our aim is to make it much quicker, we had beta units that the camera came in one day and went out the next.

Beta testers are using the internal drives of the new powerbooks or an upgraded 7200RPM drive inside a mac mini. You can also use a FW800 drive on the powerbook, and a fast enough FW400 drive on the mac mini should work fine too. The very newest mac mini(with upgraded ram, etc) seems to have a faster drive also, and the internal stock drive can be used. Basically, any drive configuration which can handle the data rate will work.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

does that mean your doing them already? what is the student pricing going to look like?

I think I understand what you mean, and honestly I don't have an SDX900 sitting here to do a side-by-side.

However, I think what Obin might be referring to is the fact that you can spend over $24,000 on an SDX900(no decks, just tape), and get a cleaner image with this system which is a tiny fraction of that cost.

True, you may argue comparing compressed and uncompressed mediums might not be 'fair', but in the end, whether it's fair or not, you paid $24,000+ for one and about for $3,000 for the other if you already own a DVX(which, seeing as this is DVXUSER.com, i think you do).

Come to think of it, what would be the cost of whatever system out there that produces output that ~IS~ comparable, that is 4:4:4 10+ bits Uncompressed? What could we 'fairly' compare this system to? It's tricky because the uncompressed competition is so expensive.

One could still argue that comparing raw 4:4:4 Uncompressed is not fair compared to 4:2:2 SDI which is dynamic range and resolution limited by NTSC standards, right?

I guess I just need to see the benefits. It is not clear to me the NTSC standards which limit dynamic range and resolution. I'd love to know what this mod would do for me. Yes, I do have a DVX100a.

I'll continue this dialogue with you off site. Thanks, Juan.
