I'm looking to get some info on how to setup the GH3 to use in manual mode for stills. It seems to auto compensate for the exposure and I"m not sure how to change it in the settings for stills. It seems to have a mind of it's own, compared to the Gh2.
Set the dial on top to "M" and you have full manual control over ISO, shutter, and aperture. Be sure you have CONSTANT PREVUE set to "ON" in the configuration menus so that exposure setting changes you make will cause the EVF and LCD to lighten or darken with changes so that you can prevue exposure effects. If you do not have it set that way the viewfinder images will always seem to show you a perfect exposure.
While you're at it, also find EXPO.METER and set that to "ON" so you have a meter readout at the bottom of the screen.
Bruce. Thanks so very much for this. I knew it had to be something that I was overlooking. I was showing a friend some basics on her new GH3 and I couldn't for the life of me get the stills to function like this, but it was fine in the video mode. There's certainly a lot of new options on the Gh3 that I like, but the menus are so darn confusing on the still side of things… so consumer. Seems like an improvement on the stills for sure. I'm eagerly anticipating the new Gh4k for sure!
You are a scholar and a gentleman and I appreciate your time in helping me on this! All the best to you and all of my DVXuser family! I don't come on as often as I would like, but this is still the BEST filmmaking forum on the planet! All the best…
