Hey guys, so the films just became viewable over at

dvxfest.com/betrayalfest

mine's called Cleaned Out and was shot on the GH1... check it out and let me know what you think!

Hi Sean: I especially like everything about the scene in the alley, immediately following the robbery, including the very good camerawork. The GH1 looks good, too. Congrats!

Nice work Sean! I like the color grading--in the alley is that post or white balanced that way?? Good look none the less-cold and blue.

The SOT/Sync issue at :33 kind of threw me and made me think- that this was going to be rough, but you kept my attention- and there were very many things I really enjoyed about this.

-I love the framing on your lead char. in the interrogation.

-good story/writing

-good use of cam angles, dollies

-great cutting/tempo

2 thumbs up here dude!!:thumbup::thumbsup:

Haha, so sorry guys, I got so caught up over at the BetrayalFest thread I forgot about this post! Anyways thanks for the kind words, unfortunately this did not place in the top ten, but I will still answer whatever questions you guys have!

First off, the alley sequence was all colored in post. I shot it midday on an overcast day, but wanted it to look like early morning so I went with the deep blue skew. The sync issue will be fixed, I had a choice in the edit, go with the drivers head not matching positions in the next edit, or go with the back seat guys lips not exactly matching. Somehow I got it in my head that his hand would cover his mouth and people wouldn't notice it, but yeah, people noticed it. Will be fixed now that I don't have to worry about time. The framing was a conscious choice to really fill the frame. I wanted it to be close to profile to help show that this was a standoff between Banks and the detective, and I wanted the audience to see Banks' eyes all the time, to help them connect.

All dollies were on an indie slider, very versatile, but needs two sets of legs, not one in the middle. The tempo will be slowed down a bit for the full length version for festival circuits (probably 8 mins) this will allow for more characterization and make the unveiling a little more of a slow burn.

Technical details I shot on all Nikon Primes... 24mm 35mm 50mm and 85mm. Tried to keep the aperture in the 2.0 to 2.4 range as much as possible. Night stuff I went wide open. Color grading was done initially with the standard three way color corrector, then built upon using Magic Bullet (no presets, all from scratch) In MB I used a subtle bleach bypass and a 1 or 2 pt film grain to help achieve a filmic look. I also used a Cokin P820 diffuser in front of the lens for the whole shoot to help with the super sharp edges of digital. Shot in 1080 24p, converted in NeoScene.

Glad you dug it. Wish we could still be in the race!
