New G35 grabs

Hi folks. Just wanted to share some grabs from my G35 adapter. (www.guerilla35.com) These are not from any particular project - just shooting around. First two were in squeeze mode. All have been CC'd.
I was using a Nikon 50mm 1.8 and DVX100a

Those are great grabs! The DOF is right on and quality does not seemed to be compromised by the slightlest. I'm very impressed with this adapter, plus less noise because no spinning GG huh? Do you own the adapter, beta test it, what? The biggest question is how indie pocket friendly is it? :) The micro35 adapter looks pretty good too, specially for the price range.
Thanks for the samples!

According to the site the adapter should have already been out on the market for two months now. Can you give us the status on release and price information?

Great job!

Pete

Those look fantastic! A tiny bit soft, but maybe that's the lens being wide open (which adds softness and makes things hard to get in focus.) Anyhow, those grabs look great. More info on the adapter would be fantastic, though, I agree.

Also, the second one has a nice soft gamma response. Is that all color correction or do you feel that by having a wax (or something close to it) projection screen, there's a little highlight diffusion (which would be a good thing, I suppose.)

Very nice grabs, though. If the price is right, I may have to get one of these adapters for myself. Otherwise, I'll just refine my home built one (which isn't so nice, but cost me about fifty dollars.)

Thanks for all the replies.

No, I don't have any pics of the adapter itself. I am using a pre-production version. Jonathan from guerilla35.com is currently working on the production version. You'll have to check out guerilla35.com for pricing info - I don't think it has been set in stone yet, but I'm guessing it will be close to the Micro35.

I'm really pleased with the images I'm getting out of this adapter. The footage looks awesome on my TV. Yes, some of those grabs look a little soft, but some of that may be due to operator error.I'm not a quick-draw on the focus yet. I've always heard that the Mini35 softens the footage so I was pleasantly surprised to find the footage from the G35 quite sharp.

The adapter lowers the image contrast a bit which is great for CCorrecting. And yes highlights are somewhat diffused (especially if they're out of focus)

Diffused highlights is cool, film tends to treat highlights similarly, unlike video. This looks a lot better than the stuff I've seen from the micro35.

elrosten,

Nice work. I especially like how the G35 works the contrast. What an advantage. I am in Chico, and have a working adapter also. I can let you know about upcoming projects if you are interested.

I have to shoot at around f2.4 in direct sunlight with the adapter. Shooting in the shade = a needed gain boost. Is that your experience too?

With my home-grown adapter I was able to shoot around f2.4 in shade, and actually got up to f16 or so in sunlight. With super-thin (uneven wax) I was able to shoot indoors in some situations, even.

The big advantage of these professional grade static adapters (g35 and movie tube) is that the surface is thin (less light loss) and even (less grain or patterning). And the construction is better. I'm very curious how these guys create such an even surface, but--obviously--it's a trade secret of sorts. So I think with the g35, there's much less light loss.

Bikefilms,

Are you saying that you have to open the iris on you camera up to 2.4 to get a useable exposure? In the sun I have to use the 1/8 ND filter and stop down a good amount (not sure exactly) on the DVX to get the correct exposure. I would guess that this adapter only loses about a stop of light.

Shoot me an email and let's chat about the local scene: info at savvyproductions.com
