New Fuji Lightweight 35PL zoom, the 19-90 T2.9 Cabrio

+1 servo

and if it looks close to something, *cough*alura*cough*. maybe different glass.

the listed daily rental of cooke set and alura seemed a bit high. what would be the average real world one week(7 days) quote for them? and this 19-90.

If that were a 2/3" lens, it would probably retail for about $4K. I know it's not a 2/3", but I can't help making the comparison just based on it's appearance and specs.
Having said that, it's actually the perfect lens for a lot of what I do with my F3, but at $38K, I just don't think so...

4k? that's retarded. you are clearly not an experienced ENG shooter. Comparable Fujinon lenses for HD 2/3" cameras (and we are not comparing the range, since it is not possible to make a 23x s35 lens anywhere this size) list for close to the same price as this lens. but they sell at higher discounts, and this lens will probably discount more as years go by and other options appear.

but some of you are missing the point here. this lens is as revolutionary as the RED camera was to the s35 market (and no, I am not a red fan, but you have to admit that it shook things up a bit). and for ENG shooters like me, this lens makes s35 shooting now possible in the ENG style we are so used to. this lens will be a great match to my Alexa for documentary style work now, and will also work well with my F3 with the camera all rigged out for shoulder mount. Yes, $38,000 is a lot of money, but for what we do, it will be worth it. I can't wait to get mine. I just hope it's good with the breathing and no ramping.

ps.
we ENG shooters focus by eye, thru the viewfinders, not by marks. so having fewer marks is a non issue. this might not be a lens for everything and everyone. cine style shooting, for that, i would stick with the Alura 18-80.

Take it easy, Lenny. While I may sound retarded, I do have some ENG experience...over 30 years worth. Sure, I think it's a nice lens and will be very useful as an all-around broll lens...but I still think it's overpriced by $10K.
Heck, if you're talking ENG, doc or news magazine work, the cost of this lens alone would buy a nice companion 2nd broll camera like a PDW800 that's a lot more efficient to work with. Just sayin. Maybe at $25K I might be tempted by this lens...
