GH4 New footage

And my prediction comes true…. First Flowers, now Youtube cats in 4K.

All we lack are a few mindless pans of an empty field and the triple header will be complete!

WTF....how do they choose who gets these things to test. Please tell me this is a joke....How does a bowl of shallow dof strawberries help anybody in judging a single thing. At least the cats gave us a little something, lol....but C'mon man!

Oh no , a GH4 4K cat video !

Back off, you perfect people who have never produced a mediocre test video.

The bottom line is that even a cat video can be indicative of how detail and motion are handled by a camera. Perhaps even more so than a test chart.

I shoot a lot of animals for my work, so I'm actually pleased to see a cat video test :)

If that's straight out of the camera, then the colors look better than my GH2, that's for sure. Especially the green grass.

My take is that this looks very similar to the GH3 in 1080 mode. One way around some of the aliasing problems we've found on the GH3 is to stop the Lans down to F-16 or even F 18 to soften things up just a bit. When there's enough light this works quite well. In 4k mode I imagine the aliasing problems will disappear, and you can open back up to 7.1 or the like for maximum sharpness as desired. I cannot wait to get my hands on this camera!!

I have never seen so much false samples for a camera before. Completely ridiculous!
It is really the most exciting video camera from panasonic since the DVX/Varicam days. Looks like GH/AF has really matured in image quality, and it additionally brings things to the table that are unique.

This is the first thing I have seen from panasonic since they released the HPX500, that I feel like a kid in the candy store. It is small, and the IQ stands on it's own from what I am seeing. The price and form factor make it an awesome little powerhouse. Not sure that I would invest into the system, and I am not 100% sold on certain aspects, though, and this is awesome: how cool is it for existing users to be able to give their personal camera a "production" upgrade when they make that move?! Even C100 users can't do that, much less a 5d3, D800, A7, or 70d.

Has anyone watched the Zacuto GH4 video?

Not sure I am as optimistic as some about the dynamic range. It may just be the color profile being used. It is very nice regardless.
Also, that video was from one of the black magic cameras. I'd be ecstatic if it was close to them in DR, but will be happy with an extra stop.

I'd tend to go with the rep in the Zacuto video that said you are safe to say 11 stops. Some might get more but 11 usable stops. I'm happy with that and a nice little bump from GH3. Considering the C300 has 12 stops in C log I think the GH4 represents well in the DSLR market

I have been hearing 13 spread around on forums, but I am not seeing anything that looks like 13 in demo videos. 11 is nice. 11 is an improvement. One can do a lot with 11. I just think it would be sad if everyone got distracted with that number 13 though. As RatlabProd referenced, all of the other dslrs (except 1DC) are in the 9-11 neighborhood, so it is a contender in IQ alone. So, when all the other factors come together, it is quite exciting. This may not be my next purchase, since I am locked into other gear, but it may be my next 'recommendation' camera to others. I really like how the GH series is coming along.

Seeing as nothing else in the sub $5,000 range has: pro I/O, 11stops DR (except fs100/C100), 4K, HFR, high-res EVF, 10bit, .....nuff said.

A lot of the footage from the GH4 so far looks GH3 like, maybe a little sharper. I should have bid higher on that F3 yesterday on Ebay with the 3 PL lenses, damn!

Dang! should have bid higher!

F3's are awesome. Definitely a film makers camera. Can't carry it around in your pocket like the GH4 though. and cost of entry on the f3 is a bit higher. With the GH4 you have a whole host of low cost yet effective accs and support systems, from small remote quad choppers, to handheld steadicams, and on and on, not to mention the option of 4k for nerdy clients or getting two shots in one camera on sitdown interviews. Making it a great starter camera that has pro I/O options when you end up needing them, but are not forced to buy right away. Just thinking aloud about it's use for students, travelers, first time film makers, home family shooters, people needing a light bcam, and low (and high) budget docu makers. People that don't want/need to spend $20,000 on a complete shooting package, or those who need to fit everything in a back pack.

Anyway, that is all I am going to do to plug this camera. A camera I will probably never buy. Just think is cool that they are pushing some boundaries. The f3 is a more meaty camera. I really like what that camera can do, and would prefer it for work over the GH4 9x's out of 10. But different class.

Alright, I'll get off your guys' forum now, NAB's got me all riled up.
