This is some footage I grabbed tonight with my letus35a.

If any of these are soft or out of focus its my fault, I'm still getting used to it. My first footage was poo poo!

Let me know what you think about the footage, and also the lighting, I'm trying to get better at it.

Here it is on the camera.

Nice footage.

Questions:

A) Hows that letus feel on the end of your camera? Isn't that a little heavy? Looks like it but I could be wrong.

B) Nevermind. Someone answered this one already for me.

Great footage again, thanks for posting.

P.S. I dunno CRAP about lenses and all that stuff, I'll tell you that RIGHT now. =P

i really like the footage, i want to pick one of these up myself but i find the DOF too shallow. Footage looks great but i want something that resembles film a little closer. What would one look for in terms of lens to achieve the DOF that most films are shot at ?

"Jesus, are all those your dogs?? Nice footage, some of the best Letus35a footage I've seen."

Yep they're my girls, cheaper than kids, and you can beat em! (j/k :) )

"Hows that letus feel on the end of your camera? Isn't that a little heavy? Looks like it but I could be wrong."

It completely depends on the lens. The letus is exceptionally light, I can't hazard a guess to the weight, but its negligible. The 50 mm doesn't appear to put any strain on the camera but the 135 could definitely cause some issues if left on a tripod for any length of time.

"Twas neat, I liked the ending."
lol thanks

"What would one look for in terms of lens to achieve the DOF that most films are shot at ?"

Films are shot with all levels of DOF at all distances. If these strike you as too shallow, you could try a 24mm lens. I think I'm gonna pick one of those and a 70~ mm lens soon myself.

Lucidz - really nice. I have been a bit hesitant regarding 35mm adapters but this footage makes me reconsider. I think I would want one of these....very nice job. I love the softness that the adapter gives the image. Completely defined mind you, jsut that hint of filmic softness.

Thanks for all the nice comments guys.

I should add, I did not do any cc to these at all. I wanted them untouched so you guys could see what there is to work with from a base.,

Yes, I think Quyen (is that his name?) has devloped one that fixes the flip issue, albeit a bit more than the original model.

Yes, there is a flip version but I believe it starts at 600. It would probably run you upwards of 650 total.

I was afraid of light loss (not sure if its a real issue with flip) so I got the standard. I just turn my video monitor upside down :)

Yeah, I don't know if buying the flip version is a viable decision if you've got a field monitor. But then again, that's if you have a field monitor.

Must've taken some time to get used to, though.

its tough for me to get used to focusing with a field monitor period.

I have 3, a 6 inch tft field monitor, a 8 inch sony top end video monitor, and a 12 inch panasonic video monitor.
The sonys the best by far, runs on battery etc.

But focusing with it instead of eyepiece or lcd is tough. And for hand held shots, forget about it

In that case maybe it's a time saver.

I'm still looking into purchasing a 35mm adapter for my own production here very soon. It's so hard to decide. I'm going to check out November and Broken over the next two weeks to really decide if the 35mm adapter is worth the expense.

Although WATER looked damned good shot with a 35mm adapter, it wasn't leaps beyond what the DVX100a can do innate.

Thanks for the great footage, lucidz.

good footage lucidz...it was definitely some of the better letus footage i have seen.

Kholi, i rented November and thought they did a pretty good job. there was a lot of work done in post to achieve the looks they were going for, but overall the camera looked good. it was a bit grainy in alot of the sections, but what do you expect, it's mini dv.
