If you're gonna "HATE PEOPLE" (in your own words) that say anything why not him? You say THANX to me and then spit in my face and call me a racist?

cheer up brother. at least he didn't call you out for being the drunken, bar fightin', lucky charms cereal eating, potato headed, limerick quotin', blarney stoned, notre dame football watchin' irishman that you are.

did you watch it before you put it on the internet? The first shot, you can hear someone say action. Like C'mon dude, huge mistakes like that really kill your chances for people to watch the rest. I heard that and stopped watching.

I'm pretty sure he did that on purpose.

Doesn't matter if he did or not. We have all seen a transition fade that cuts audio or video in too early and this too closely imitates this (if it was on purpose) It just looks like a big mistake. My suggestion if you wanted it to look like a poorly made movie would be to make the "action" more obvious (loud) or to have a boom fall far into the frame or something like that.

But these insults such as you couldn't makle it past the first 90 seconds, I DOUBT that. It IS somewhat interesting for what it is, and I'm not speaking like that 'cause I directed it.

Don't mistake truth for insult. I couldn't get beyond the first ninety seconds, either. You shouldn't lash out at people for giving you the nitty gritty.

And why do you HATE Spike Lee? What has he done to you to cause hatred?

I Think It Was Fun To Look At. We All Know The Bad In The Short, But We Have Give Some Kind Of Lead Way. I Mean. There Are Some People On Here Who Never Put There Work On Here.

But Anyway, It Was Pretty Fun To Look At

This has nothing to do with anything. He put his work up, and he needs to learn to take criticism. If you want congratulations on having the motivation and perseverance to get a project done in the first place, get it from your friends and family, not here. This is to get feedback on what you actually made. And even if me saying I can't get past 90 seconds sounds mean, it's also constructive criticism, in that this piece could benefit a lot from trimming the opening segment. I've put stuff up on here and have gotten bad reactions, but instead of lashing out at it I try and learn from it.

This Thread: It's beyond amusing and logic why it turned toward anything to do with race and black/Irish/whatever. Why laymen are discussing these things in a place where only criticism of one's work is being sought is mind numbing. The same happened when I posted my Osama video.

The Film: I skimmed through it initially in 15 seconds as I do with most posted clips, not particularly impressed, though not inspired to post a patronizing and negative critique either. But then I felt that defensive adrenaline pumping when I read the inexorable succession of exaggerated poor reviews from dvxusers. It seemed like a collective escalation of insults that were all to easy to voice once the snowball was rolling. So I watched (most of) the film and alas, it wasn't as deficient as may be concluded from the posts. However. The indoor (and some outdoor) shots needed twice as much light. The audio is very poor, but I can understand you erroneously shot with half levels. OK. The audio editing is quite shoddy though: background noise jumping up and down from shot to shot. I did like some of the sound effects (where did you buy/download the slashing and punching sounds?). The apartment/kitchen is far too compact to produce effective shots with the stock dvx lens. Too many shots are shot from below head level, and the result is undesirable. The dialogue...you could have done without honestly. The contrast levels are low throughout. The handheld shots are shaky, and not in an effectively intentional manner. But all in all, this took a lot of effort. The final impression is a mildy amusing affair that you must have learned from and amateurs like the rest of us can draw from as well.

Just curious....Why Would Anyone Write A Sentence Like This? I Need To Know.

Yea, overall it's fairly amusing, especially the part where they smoke weed instead of fighting. Although it's probably better if you go back and do some trimming. That fight scene in the snow was WAY too long so I just ended up fast forwarding. This works much better as a 5 min short, not 13 minutes. The technical aspects of it I'll just tell you that it's best to learn through experience.

People compare me to Troy Duffy (Boondock Saints) and Ed Burns (Brothers McMullen) because I'm Irish. But now you've gone and insulted ME pulling out a race card. I refused to use the "N" word in my gangster flick, not even once, even though the city I'm filming was known for stabbing black people (before racial intergration) in broad daylight if they stepped in the neighorhood. Using that word in a movie has no class and I don't feel like I need to use it to be authentic. Brothers love gangster movies. Why would I want them to come see my movie and then have the characters in my movie say things that upset or make them uncomfortable (yeah, THEM meaning black people). You on the other hand made a mock film after a guy that says "Nigga this" and "Nigga that" in everyone of his films. If you're gonna "HATE PEOPLE" (in your own words) that say anything why not him? You say THANX to me and then spit in my face and call me a racist?

I have no idea what youre talking about.

PS> this thread is gunna get closed sooo fast if it turns into a race argument

Um..I did that on purpose. That's how the real film is.

Try and tell QT what he COULD and COULDN'T do with Samuel L Jackson in Pulp Fiction. He gets mad everytime another director takes on a black film, He's just a hateful, arrogent(sp) high tempered person. **** him. He's no roll model to me. He's done like a trillion other things that I can't think of right now.

THIS is why I joined DVX. For feedback like THIS! EXACTLY like this. Not the kind of bullshit that other wanna be's proclaim is constructive advice. Like I said, I can tell the real from the bull. Everything you said was on point and dead on, mixed with a lot of great psychology as to why fellow DVXers talk ****, cause it's so easy to do when everyone else is doing it.

And get it right, I'm not LOOKING to be rewarded for the time and effort to get my films done. EVERYBODY ON THIS SITE should be doing/or have something done if they have a DVX.

I'm just highly misunderstood on this site is all. Don't worry...Imma keep making movies till my eyes fall out.

I liked those fight scenes....

Thanx. And I get the sound effects from everywhere on the net. The site that I mainly use is too difficult to remember...
