New Features on DVXuser - Blogs, embedded video, etc.

If you look in the navbar at the top of the page, you will now see a "Community & Blogs" drop down menu.

You can now more easily find Social Networking Groups, etc... and you will also find a newly installed Blog for dvxuser :)

You guys have fun with it... Take a look at the "blogger" user to get an idea of how to organize categories. Thinking of maybe letting you guys do your fest threads in the blog form if you want to in the future...

Also, you can now embed video into your posts (this is particularly meant for the blog section for production journals and such).

How do you do it? Video embed will only work for videos uploaded to www.motionbox.com This site was recommended by Jack as it is more friendly to the indy filmmaking community in our opinion. Free unlimited SD videos, and it's 30/year or something like that for HD video uploading... Quality is very good on the hd, there are great privacy options, etc, etc....

so, if you upload your videos to motionbox you can then use bbcode (buttons coming soon to make it easier) to embed your video.

It's pretty easy....
just use this format:
[example]134313421[/example]

"example" would be replaced by "movie" for sd or "movieHD" for HD clips (without the quotes, of course). That string of numbers I have would be the video id in the url.... For example, in the url:

http://www.motionbox.com/videos/1f9fddb11e19e192
(which is a random video I found) you would want to paste the 1f9fddb11e19e192 in between the bbcode.

Make sense? You'll figure it out.... and the buttons will make it easier as well.

Enjoy... let me know if you have any questions.

Later,
Jason

Whoa, nice! Thanks alot guys, you sure put alot of effort into this place to keep it nice and fresh :) Gonna look into that soon.

Thanks. Just trying to put some energy back into the place and give you guys some new toys to play with and make it easier for you to network, share your work, etc....

That reminds me.... We are also going to be launching a series of ongoing "minifests" in the coming weeks. You can check the DVXuser Fest forum to see some of the things that we have cooking for you there.

Maybe I´m outing myself now as a complete idiot and noob....

but what is the difference between a Blog and a Thread here?

I mean, you write on some topic and poeple answer.

Or did I miss something?

Oh, and how about a german social group?

very cool! I guess i will have to shell out the dough for the HD upload capabilities, which kind of sucks considering Vimeo looks so great...

EXCELLENT updates! I LOVE the video embed one, and have been waiting for it. Thanks for the hard work.

I think I'll try it out now with a video I finished last night:thumbsup::thumbsup:

I would have to say, surely Exposure Room should get the nod for supporting film-makers. And the quality is great too. Motion Box looks fine - but of all the video sharing sites, I think XR is the most oriented to creative individuals.

(And it's free!)

maybe I'm missing it, but I don't see embed code for exposure room.

We're going to try this one for a while. Jack seems to think the hd quality rivals any of the similar sites out there, and the sd quality is quite nice as well.

Plus, unlike many sites, you can actually embed hd video right into the site. Most others will require you to actually go to the site rather than being able to embed the hd video here. so, you've got the choice.

We'll see how this one goes for now. I think it's a good match for us, and it's not a chat centric place and we are :) So, embed your sd or hd version here and discuss here...

I added little SD and HD buttons now as well. You will find them when you are creating a new thread, or in the advanced editor. Just enter the video id, highlight it and then click the appropriate sd or hd button to wrap the bbcode around it.

Added a couple of groups already.

Although in Jacks post they look similar embeded, check the difference at full screen.

This would be a great way to view future fests.

definitely thinking about the possibility of streaming films embedded in each persons fest thread.... but it would not be from an outside site b/c of the ability for folks to re-upload and change their film throughout the viewing period.

But, I'm sure I can do custom bbcode and embed video from the dvxfest mirrors just the same... that one is down the pipe though :)

Lots of stuff coming..

My comments were mostly in regard to Vimeo.

2 things I don't like about Vimeo
- you can't embed HD.
- you can't make your videos private without password protecting them. I want to have my films non searchable, but I don't want to have someone I'm looking for a job for or asking for a review from to have to remember / write down / enter a password.

I've made a "Private Screening Room" page:
http://frenchquarterfeatures.com/private_screening_room.html
where the films name, my name etc. are all graphics rather than text so they won't be searchable.
If you're wondering why someone would want to do this, it's explained on the page.

So with vimeo you have the choice of password, or everyone on Vimeo / the internet can find your video. And again, you can't embed HD for vimeo. So for DVXuser it makes a lot of sense to go with something where people can embed HD video here and comment on it HERE rather than vimeo.

$30 a year seems reasonable for motion box for those who want to upload unlimited HD footage.

SD is free.

I'm not familiar with the site you mentioned, but if it can embed HD video for FREE then we should definitely look into it. Again, we'd want something with a HD embedability so people can discuss HD videos here.
