New Features Coming To FCP X

Dual monitors!! Yahooooooooo!!!!!

MXF (plugin?) support sounds promising. Now, how about image sequences?

Go to feature request in FCP X and request image sequences!

And drag and drop/copy paste individual effects to other clips, and work area export, and saved in/out in the event browser ;)

Looks good. Glad to see they are continually offering these as FREE updates and hope the trend continues.

They are free as that is the nature of the Mac App Store. Purchase once, all updates are free. The Mac App Store doesn't allow charges for updates.

I know Bob, im saying they are providing these for free rather than as a 2.0x release

And apple makes the app store, if they wanted to make paid updates they certainly could

Um, no, rebuilding the App Store so they can charge for "updates" would be too much work. There's no incentive to do that. But like others have done, when have an "upgrade" from a major number to a major number, the old app comes down, and a new one goes back up for sale. Even then, we're getting this for the price of an upgrade already, it's pretty inexpensive. We've lots and lots of updates left before any one will have to pay for anything. It'll be a long time coming. Software developers don't make profits off of "updates", it's not worth it to Apple or anyone else when you're not shipping any physical media, and Apple does all the distribution and registration work for you.

Who is "Bob"?

The 10.4 update was a godsend. The app responds so smoothly now. Like a memory leak was fixed or something. FCPX is getting stronger by the day! I opened FCP7 the other day and quickly closed it. Editing in FCPX is just a no brainier now that I'm used to it. Keep it coming Apple. You're on the right path. Now just release a new Mac Pro.

haha, sorry BenB (not Bob). Anyway, you don't have to rebuild an entire app store, they could do an in-app purchase model if they wanted to charge for updates. You make it sound like Apple is prisoner to their app store and is only releasing free updates because they have to. My point is not to argue about whether the richest and most valuable company in the world, with the brightest minds, could figure out an effective and profitable way to charge for software updates in their own app store if they wanted to. Rather, I am simply pointing out that I appreciate how Apple is releasing major feature releases for free to FCPX users, instead of merely developing FCPX 2.0 with all of these features and charging an upgrade price for 2.0 release.

In my eyes, they SHOULD be doing this... BUT I'm glad to see that they actually ARE. It shows they are committed to the users and the product, despite the past blunders. Looking forward to 10.0.5!

...and is only releasing free updates because they have to.

Where the hell do you get that idea? They want it this way, duh! What makes you think Apple would do otherwise? Do you see anyone else giving you free updates so fast, so easy, and free? Anyone? You mentioned that Apple could charge us at any moment. Nope, not their style, not the plan they've laid out for the next ten years, as they've publicly stated. Yes, we'll see an FCP 11 or FCP X 1.0.0 eventually. Yes, we'll have to pay for the upGRADE. But we'll be paying a hell of a lot less than Adobe or Avid or Sony will be charging you for a much lesser upgrade. What about their prices?

Even if they charge, it won't be very much. Look, as an EDITING, hence assorting video together, FCPX is grand. You think it and it just happens. And I'll pay the $29 for the next full version easily. Now if apple were smart they would open up the Iphone and Ipad to connect to camera systems for logging and even monitoring, maybe even controlling the camera completely. The Ipad with thunderbolt! Shoot, maybe Apple will make a capture device like the Black Magic Cinema? The thing is, Apple can do all of these things. They're bigger than Exxon. Is Adobe? Is Sony? Avid? Apple has that kinda cash on hand. How much has the Iphone and Ipad changed our lives? That is why I stick with Apple. They set the future.

Apple is not bigger than Exxon, they were briefly valued on the stock market more than Exxon, and very briefly. There are many professional level apps for the iPhone and iPad that do lots of stuff with cameras and NLE's. Check out Movie Slate as a small example (http://www.movie-slate.com/). Check out the Alesis IO Dock (http://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/iODock/). There's tons of stuff out there. I doubt Apple will fool with a camera outside of the iOS devices.

But, to quote someone from another forum;
"Now that Adobe added skimming into Premiere does it make it unprofessional since iMove had this before?"

“The TV business is uglier than most things. It is normally perceived as some kind of cruel and shallow money trench through the heart of the journalism industry, a long plastic hallway where thieves and pimps run free and good men die like dogs, for no good reason.” -Hunter S. Thompson

Apple has 100 billion in cash, just sitting there. 100 BILLION. And god bless his soul, but no Steve Jobs to king over what they can or might do. Name another company that has 100 BILLION cash just sitting there that deals with electronics and software?

I hope Apple builds a time machine with that 100 billion.

iTime.

It's about time.

Okay, sorry to be flippant and stupid.

BenB, are you even reading my post? It sounds like we are on the same page. I never said Apple didn't want to release them for free!! I said that "YOU" were saying that... but apparently you aren't? LOL. My whole point was that they WANTED to release them for free, it sounded like you were disagreeing with that. Reread it ;) Anyway, sounds like we're on the same page.

On a side note, Apple briefly passed Exon last year but now sits squarely ahead of Exon as of January:

So yes, they are more valuable, and by a LONGGGG shot now!

Yes, but 90% out of this 100M was made on iPhone and iPad and this is the main market for Apple now. I won't be surprised if we won't see new MAC PRO.
FCPX confirms that Apple is done with Pro industry- I don't understand how people can't see it....or they don't want to see it :)
I think best times for Apple are about to end- it's already starting with phones- Android phones are taking over Apple phones.

Thats 100 Billion, not million. And why do you think Apple is done with the Pro market concerning FCPX? The best times for Apple are about to end? Walk into any Apple store and look at their traffic at any time during the day. I have yet to see an Android user in public. I look and I look and all I see are Iphones. Everyone I know has an Iphone. When I attend meetings with clients, they all have Iphones. FCPX will just get stronger and stronger. Hell, even the great Adobe had to implement skimming because of FCPX. LOL. Smaller, faster, better. Thats Apple.

The only worry on my mind is the MacPro but that has been hashed out 1000x over at MacRumors.com. I heard the overall mood at NAB concerning the machine was grim with most people confident it's toast. It'll be interesting to see what Apple does because with all their comments about caring about the Pro market still and committing to making FCPX something Pro's can really dig into (which I think it's already doing but can be doing better) then I would hope their hardware commitment is on par. What good is a big software commitment without the hardware? I've been at a crossroads lately because I absolutely love OSX and building a PC today is very tempting. Going back to Windows doesn't excite me though. Even so, I spent $3450 on a 2009 2.93Ghz 8-Core MacPro with 26GB RAM and spent another $400 upgrading the video card to the ATI 5870. I had a friend run geekbench the other day on his $1400 PC and it matched mine. Now I realize there's other factors here, but the fact is when it comes to CPU/Memory performance his is on par with mine. That doesn't inspire much confidence after dropping so much money on a machine.

I still like FCPX and the more I use it the more I enjoy...it's just been a slow start.

Apple's market capitalization is significantly higher than Exxon's.

Apple's $547.71 billion

Exxon's: $401.94 billion

That's as of April 19th.
