New Feature Documentary Shot with HVX-200

Hey Everyone,

Just wanted to let everyone know that my feature Documentary "Full Moon Lightnin'" will be screening at Indie Memphis Film Festival on October 10th @ 7:15. Check out the film website at www.fullmoonlightnin.com.

Of particular interest to the DVX users is that this film took over 5 years to produce which started with the original DVX-100...then thanks to the Panasonic Digital Filmmakers Grant (thanks Jan) I was able to use the SDX-900 which was/is a fantastic camera. I ended up finishing the film with an HVX. Pulled this off using the old 4GB cards (remember those days).

If you are not in the area to see the screening check out the all the extra video content on the site (lots of cool stuff) and the album which was recorded during the filming. It made it all the way to #1 on XM satellite.

Hey Barry Green you even made it into the credits...I owe so much to you and everyone who helped answer those early day questions...Just goes to show what a wonderful resource this is for filmmakers.

Peace and Harmony

Congratulations John,

This is a great place to be and I wish you great success with your film.
The site looks fantastic and as you said some clips are very cool.

Best,

Alex.

Thanks guys:

Yeah Indie Memphis made a smart decision in bringing on EriK Jambor as festival director. He has had tremendous success wherever he goes. If you liked the trailer the film will blow you away. I look back and even I can't believe all the things that happened on this emotional journey. I will probably release a limited edition DVD which will contain the soundtrack (which is awesome)...Limited edition so that I can protect distribution outlets down the road. The film played at Cinefest-Sudbury (one of the largest festivals in Canada) two weeks ago and was a huge success. I got a couple of distribution offers while there but I will hold off a bit to see if other offers present themselves. Besides a hybrid distribution plan looks mighty tempting. I already have a built in audience (Floyd Lee Band fans and general blues fanatics) but the reality of it is that I made this film so that it could appeal to a much larger audience. It really has nothing to do with the history or origins of the music as our friend Scorsese already did put together a few years back.

As I said before there were so many questions I had early on regarding workflow that I feel like the DVX users were the crew I never had...Thanks again to everyone and I hope that someday you all get a chance to experience this film.

Pretty cool, congrats as well! My sci-fi low budget feature is starting to make waves at festival route right now, I know how hard it is to get it out there. Congratulations.

The film festival circuit is not for the meek....it is a tough competitive place and at times it is hard to figure out how some festivals pick from the submissions. Glad to say that everything went well in Memphis and in Tucson the following day. Each festival liked the film so much that one had an Encore presentation and the other has put it in their "Best of the Fest" which will screen again in a couple of weeks.

Scorsesefan I hope to get it up to NYC...it would do well up there considering half of the flm was shot in NYC. If you have any connections up there with festivals I'm all ears. I'll let the film speak for itself but it never huts to have a film placed to the top of the pile.

I may start another topic on distribution....we live in a brave new world and the traditional distribution channels are looking less appealing....

Thanks again for your kind words.

JG

Funny you should ask about a DVD release...I am at the moment designing the DVD packaging. It should be available before Christmas and will be a Limited Edition 2 disk set. Disk 1 will be the feature and other deleted scenes while the other disk will be the soundtrack which is incredible.

On the movie website you can sign up to enter the contest for the autographed guitar. This will automatically put you on the mailing list.

Thanks again for your interest in the film...it really is an amazing story.
