Nikon rumours are reporting that a new Nikon Expeed chip "that will be able to deliver some insane frame rates and video capabilities" is to be implemented in their rumoured mirrorless camera.....
Hopefully we get to see this processor in their next gen DSLR's too along with 24/25/30P frame rates being implemented (24/50/60P even better) in ALL their new DSLR's also.
I am hoping this new chip will see improved scaling algorithms implemented (rather than current pixel binning) to reduce aliasing/moire and a higher bandwidth for the video codec would also be certain to improve video performance... a faster frame readout from the sensor to improve rolling shutter artefacts is hopefully also on the agenda....with Nikons good low light/high ISO performance and the DR chracteristics of their current sensors it means Nikon could finally produce a very good hybrid still/video camera.
A RAW video codec still remains my number one wish for a future Nikon DSLR...but with increasing megapixels being demanded by still photogs this is becoming harder to implement.....I reckon around 10MP would be the sweet spot for a RAW video implementation whilst allowing enough resolution to capture exceptional still images.....dare to dream
