New Episode of MyFight is up - All on HMC-40

Can you talk a little about the lighting conditions and what camera settings you used? The color was good under what I suspect were rather un-photo-friendly lights (unless you added some of your own). Were you often using gain?

Also, is that all strictly handheld, or do you use a shoulder rig of some kind? Wide angle adapter, or just the stock lens?

I have to confess I have no interest in the sport at all, but the overall style is pretty similar to a lot of my own work, and I often have to shoot in rather similar lighting conditions.

Thanks!

Hi Greg,

I'll start by saying that the camera is 100% stock, lens, etc. I do have a Glidecam that I just picked up however I have yet to use it in any of these videos. I am using a little bit of gain, it think it's around 12 (?), I'm ballparking it. The lighting is generally brutal to be honest, and usually a mix of ambient and florecsent lights. I have learned that you simply can't use Auto WB on the camera - Even in AWB Lock, I've had it shift and look awful.

To add to that, the video I'm posting later tonight shows how tough low light can be with this camera - But I'm not really complaining. For what I paid for it, I wasn't expecting miracles in low-light.

In answer to the comment about giving the camera enough light - Couldn't be more true. I shot an outdoor concert (link below - and in new post :) And I was giggling like a school girl with some shots. On my Sharp 42' LCD (HDMI), the picture this camera produces is off the wall it's so good. After my first shoot with bad lighting I wanted to return the camera, upgrade to the 150 or go Sony, etc. I couldn't be happier I stuck by my little 40, this thing is a beast :)

What kind of stuff do you normally film?

Link to interview/concert footage - Please bare in mind - the interview was supposed to be at about 6pm, and ended up being 9pm and I didn't bother bringing a light (I was shooting solo - no runner)....excuses, I know lol. Live and learn.

You can see the presets for low lighting on this forum. Here is my low lighting preset. (one thing that is bad about this cam is they only allow 3 presets) Very stingy! I used this for tornado chasing. You might want to bump up the details levels a little but these setting work well for me. Gain I don't normally go over 6db or so.
