New edit

Re: New edit

Nice Steven, the music sounds like the movie soundtrack of Hero, a film I had just watch again last week-end. As usual, beau travail!! ;)

Re: New edit

Ah, another nice piece to decompress with after the B.S. at work.

Btw - The dead fish was a nice "catch". :D

Re: New edit

Wow! That is amzing. Disjecta you are the man. You have that eye to make it look grand. Very few people have that.

Re: New edit

Beautiful work - it's funny isn't it - loose the eagles and suddenly it's a very barren place!

Re: New edit

Disjecta-

Nice work, as always.

How do you get such sharp imagery when shooting those panoramas? I am almost always unhappy with how soft an image I get when I shoot far away stuff with the stock DVX lens and polarised filter. Any suggestions as to how to help with that kind of problem?

Re: New edit

I use an HD cam for my landscapes and pretend to you guys that I am using a DVX.

But seriously, it's all about making sure that your exposure is as even as it can be. Try to avoid hotspots in the sky, this is a killer in video.

Also, uprezzing (see my post at the top of the technical section) helps with the apparent detail.

Thanks for all your comments, guys (and gals)

Re: New edit

I would love to know a few things about how you do your video.  I'm sure a million people have asked you but I'm new...

What "actual" camera resolution do you think you're getting after moving to this format (in the vertical?)  It sure looks good...  Have you viewed this on a High Def set at a widescreen resolution, and if so how does it look?  Are you only using this format for the web and if so what format are you using when creating DVD's?  Will you put together a DVD with a mix of your nature shots and sell it to us?  Doesn't need to be a polished product...

I shoot fishing videos on the Potomac River south of Washington D.C. and would love to create a nature type tour of the river.  We are slammed with Bald Eagles here.  Anyway that's why all the questions.

Re: New edit

Just saw the post in Technical: Procedure for uprezzing 4x3 letterbox to 16x9

That answered alot of my questions...

Re: New edit

Beyond the technical, I show my films exclusively on an HD Plasma 50" or 42" TV (I own both) and it looks really good on this system.

My final format is DVD so I encode all my work as widescreen 23.976 Progressive. Played natively on a progressive DVD player with the pulldown set to off on the plasma, makes for a serously orgasmic experience :)

I will be putting a DVD together to sell on the board in the next few months. I'll keep you posted.

Actually I was thinking of Gandalf the Grey galloping across the lands of middle earth :) Great stuff Disjecta. I'll have to show my girlfriend once she gets home. She's a sucker for your stuff.

Re: New edit

Love it. That fish head makes a lot more sense now with the increase in focus on the barren landscapes.

Interesting idea that I just had. Probably won't work, but you never know. The shot a 1:20. The sky moving faster is great, but what if the water was moving at normal speed. You would have to cut the frame in half and use the stop motion effect for the sky and layer the normal footage of the water on the bottom. Honestly I don't know if it's possible but the cool thing about sky's moving quickly is that they actually look like they're kind of moving slow. So the top half gives a nice, mellow quality, while the bottom half has an MTV like EXTREME! feel to it. I'm exagerrating heavily, but you know what I'm talking about.

Have some commentary and include some technical making-of pieces. I'll definetly buy one.

Re: New edit

Disjecta, you know i'm a big fan of your work so i will definately buy one. Hayden is right, add some technical footages in the DVD also! Good idea with the split screen for clouds and water.
