New dvx music video!!

Did you uprez? 24p? I can't tell since it is so fast. The footage looks really amazing for a dvx. I recently shot this drummer in a studio and uprezed in vegas 8. tell me what you think of my footage.

I liked the looks of that!

The music did scare me the first 20 seconds, though... :)

Looks great Will! Still rockin' the DVX!
I had to yank the headphones off then adjust the volume... I should have known better ;^)

Good luck if you get the T2i also!

Check it out.

Looks good, but not really the image quality. A combination of effects, color correction and a tight edit made this look good. If you were to have held any scene longer for like 3-5 seconds I think we would have seen the weakness of the dvx.

Regardless good video ( hate the song ) and way to work to the strengths to your camera and more importantly you had a great edit.

Thanks Cieloent. Wanna know a secret? I only did color correction on the small story element. The performance was all scene files, no joke. Another thing that makes the image a little softer is the streak filter that I have on the dvx for most of the performance. It's made of really cheap glass. The Leica lens on the dvx is way under appreciated.

I'd like to see what Will D could do with a serious budget and a crew.

Will's success is clearly all about him knowing what to point the camera at, knowing what HE wants to see, and knowing how to pick the best of the best frames. (And having very strong opinions about it)

Will understands what makes these types of scenes work, and how to maximize the gear he does have.

Proof that it is so NOT the equipment.
(But a DVX or better sure don't hurt.)

HOLY crap amazing footage, im a sound guy for a metal band and we are in the middle of planning a music video and we have 2 dvx and this proves this camera is still kickin!! Great job man.

I am in the works of a music video for a truely under-appreciated band shot with a truely under-appreciated camera! It should be done in about a month or so. My plan is to export 720p, since I am filming all of this in squeeze...

well Will you did it again. very goodstuff. My only complaint is because i've been following your work for a while now this is alot like the other vids you've done. not taking away from it at all...just saying. So because of thaqt i was more interested in the narrative shots...which were very nice :)

yow Andy...why arent you gonna use ur 7d for the music vid?

shout outs to Steven Bodga, Chuck, Andy, Will, Kevmo and DPstewart. Still rocking the dvx's...even though some of us have gotten 7d's and t2i's! (me included). my dvx will still be in use for a good while to come.

I have my short film which i shot on my dvx still unedited cuz of work..but it'll get done!!

Only reason why I'm not is because I actually started back before my T2i (before I got the 7D), and I just decided to finish it with it, but hey, it looks incredible!!! All in b/w, but on some shots, the added contrast makes it look so great! I will have it done soon so you guys can see it!

Dope!

I notice a certain stuttering effect, particularly on the medium shot of the guitar shredding, that seems to hit the beat just right, this is in addition to the high shutter speed...it kind of looks like the FCP Strobe filter with the settings tweaked out, but I'm leaning towards a series of jump cuts placed closely together. The final effect is really fluid. How did you do it, so that I might imitate given the opportunity? :D

can somebody explain 24p squeeze?

You mean what they are? 24p is 24 frames per second, but since the DVX records to tape, it will convert to 29.97 fps on tape...

Squeeze is when it actually records a vertically stretched image, and when you load it into an editor, you make the settings as 16:9 anamorphic, so it stretches it horizontally and turns into full 16:9 SD video.

Thanks everybody. Yea Jambrez, more hardcore, I actualy DP'd a pop music video a month ago. It's in post as I type this, and yes, you can't even tell I shot it. ahahah, It has heaps of steady cam, and tripod work.

dude 24pa squeeze is the way to go. Honestly, all of the shaking effects are me shaking the hell outta my dvx with out the image stabilizer on.

Yea DPstewert check out a short I directed with SAG actors and somewhat of a crew. Sadly, it was shot on the hmc, not a dvx, but the hmc is an amazing camera.
