New DVX/HVX... something in between?

This may turn into another one of those speculation threads but I'm really only trying to get my question answered.

I'm asking this question because it's very close to the time where I'll be buying a camera, preferrably the 100b, and I don't want to buy this camera and then they release a newer version.

Now that it's after NAB, and they've lowered the price of the DVX100b, and still no new camera (in the same price range as the DVX/HVX) has been introduced, is it okay to get a DVX100b now and still be with the same technology for atleast 6 months?

Now I know there's going to be "If you wait, you'll never get the camera, something new is always coming out" but let me give an example: I got my Powerbook one week before they introduced the MacBooks. My technology isn't obsolete but it's not the same technology as what they're selling on the shelves.

The DVX price drop combined with NAB has raised a lot of questions.
Could a similar scenario happen with the DVX100b? Will Panasonic be introducing a new camera to "fill the gap" between the DVX and HVX soon? Should I buy the DVX (soon) and whatever happens happens?

If you need it right now, and can find one get it.
Exactly its not always about having the latest and greatest all though the DVX is the greatest mini DV SD cam :) get it and put it to use. if you keep debating you will never accomplish anything.

It doesn't have a 24p option though.

24F isn't 24p? I think people get too hung up on the "true" 24p versus "fake" 24p. 24F is another path to the same result, which is a cadence that is identical in everyway to 24p. The proof is in the image, not some technical specification.

24F from the A1 is good enough 24P.

If what you want is a DVX, get a DVX, it won't change for the foreseeable future (your timeframe was six months, I'd guess it's going to stay current for that long at least). There will always be something newer/better/faster/cheaper right around the corner.

There's a good chance the next best thing will come out long before 100b's are back in stock.
I've been waiting close to a month for a legit dealer to have one in stock. I'm giving it a couple more weeks then it's an A1 for my next shoot.
Hard to believe in 2007 a major company could have such a supply-chain issue. But then I'm just pouting because I can't have one right now!

yes it is hard to believe......anyone have an answer? Maybe they are just selling a lot of them.

I was seriously going to throw in the DVX towel until I read Will Pounds post somewhere one these pages that he found them in stock yesterday at amazon.com sold by amazon.com. I ordered my DVX at 2 am this morning, it's shipped and will be here tomorrow.

ddp,
When you receive it, can you please let me know if the Magic Bullet software and book are included in your order? The BH page states "This latest version also comes standard with Magic Bullet edit software and an instructional DVD production book" implying that it will be included right in the box. If Amazon includes it as well, I will be ordering one too.

Branden- Just opened the box- no software. Just one beautiful, brand new DVX100b.

Y'all know what I'll be doing this weekend....

Hi,

For the software and book you need to register for it. There will be a piece of paper in the warranty packet telling you where to register. If it is not there it is likely a gray product.

Best,

Jan

Branden- There is a white claim form that came in the owners manual pack for the software. Sorry I missed that earlier, I was looking for an actual disc and didn't bother with the paper work......

Thanks Jan for pointing that out.

Thank You. I want to stick to an authorized dealer then. Has anyone ordered from BH since the price drop? It still says they are "accepting orders" and I would like to know what sort of timeframe I would be looking at to receive the camera.

this is what they told me a couple of days ago:

'Honestly i do not know when we will be getting those back in. its possible there will be another rebate but i havent heard a definate on it. i heard talk of a replacement but that was a short lived rumor i guess. we are still taking orders but there might be a huge backorder on it. hopefully we will have more in stock by end of this month
take care.'

I just bought one for $2130 shipped with 40hrs and the tapes were captured with a deck but tristate is selling new dvx100b's for only $2430 shipped. http://www.tristatecamera.com/lookat.php?sku=PANAGDVX100B*&cs=find.php&action=search&target=products&keywords=dvx100b%20&search_method=all

And the bad news is that they will not have a Panasonic US warranty. Keep looking for an authorized reseller Their price can be very close. We just dropped the price on the DVX100B to $2995.

Best,

jan
