New DVD from Noah on using FCP with the DVX100 Info Here!

24pA is a mode that was designed to make editing 24p footage easier. It's not really an image quality thing, it's an editing thing. And since Noah's disc is dealing entirely with editing, it's appropriate that he point out that for editing, 24pA is much better.

From the editor's perspective, especially the FCP perspective, FCP can strip out 24pA pulldown "on the fly". It can't do that with regular 24P footage. Some other editors can, but FCP can't; with FCP you'd have to make a separate trip through the Cinema Tools application to remove 2:3 pulldown. So from the FCP user's perspective, 24pA is indeed a "special thing". :)

I have just bought a DVX100B PAL, and will use it in 25p, editing on FCP. Does the DVD deal with 25p at all, or would I just skip pulldown jiggery-pokery chapters, or what? Will the DVD still be useful to me? Many thanks, Lucas

this DVD for HVX tape users?

this DVD for HVX tape users?

Hi,
Shoot on an HVX but a lot of the work I do requires me to shoot DV to tape on it. I believe the HVX's tape funtion is very similar to the DVX (with 24p/a and all). Anyway I find the tape workflow a bit confusing and was wondering if this DVD would be perfectly suitable for somebody using the HVX to tape with 24p(a).... The only difference I can think of would be something regarding the 4:3 vs. 16:9 regarding DVX vs. HVX.
thanks,
sns

DVX or HVX with Premiere Pro or VTEdit (VT4)

DVX or HVX with Premiere Pro or VTEdit (VT4)

Hi Noah,

Do you have plans to extend work to DVX/Premiere Pro, DVX/VTEdit (VT4) and/or HVX/Premiere Pro, HVX/VTEdit (VT4)? Or are these camera/NLE combinations compatible at all (For the Windows XP/Vista users)? I am trying to build a workflow around these and would like to know from experts out there if these are an ok or 'no-go' combinations.

Thanks

So far my expertise is primarily in Apple's Final Cut Studio and its workflow. For me personally it's the best option. If you want to go Windows- Barry covers that a lot on the BootCamp DVDs. Also David Jimerson does excellent stuff on Vegas with his sessions.

In terms of HVX- keep watching the skies.

Yes absolutely. The Call Box DVX100 DVD would be quite applicable to the HVX200 in DV tape mode.

Sure a number of Premiere owners have gotten this DVD. While there's a good portion that's FCP specific, there's also a lot of general workflow information and explanation of the camera's shooting modes and their implications on post production. While you might not use 100% of it, I believe there's plenty in there to make it worth your while.

Hey there Noah,

I'm not sure if this thread is still "active" but I'm really interested in buying a few callbox DVDs. Especially since there is a 2 for 1 special going on!! The DVDs look great!

BUT...for three DVDs and the little keyboard cover, the shipping comes out to $25!!!!

Is that for real? Sounds a little pricey to me, no offense. FedEx ground doesn't go any faster than USPS. Any chance of getting a cheaper shipping option?

:dankk2:

Sorry about that. Our charges include handling and are set by our warehouse company.:engel017: I'll send you an email and we'll see what we can do for you.

Thanks for the reply. I look forward to getting your DVDs.

Noah. I accidentally ordered the HVX version of your DVD and need the DVX version. It just came now and is still shrink-wrapped. Can I make the swap?

EDIT: I just ordered the DVX version. I will ship back the HVX version to:

8429 Washington Place NE, Suite A
Albuquerque, NM 87113

Hi Noah,

Are the DVD's that you mentioned in the original post still available? The links no longer lead you to anything.

Thanks,

Chris

hi-thanks for this info-I'll be getting one of these. I'm new to the editing piece-do you know what capture settings are used for a DVX100B in FCP 7?
