New DSLR rig options from Zacuto

z-finder updates / changes as well as changes to their dslr rigs. pretty cool. prices have dropped too.

Man... I just bought a z-finder yesterday! Oh well, it's still kick-ass piece of gear. (Although, for the same price, I could have gotten two of those lilliput monitors on sale in the marketplace...)

"Extender frames"? The last time I used something similar to this was when I adjusted valves on my Mk2 Golf, and it was about 20 years ago.

with the build quality and customization, they are just expensive not over priced. there is a big difference.

I've never used their products but I did have a chance to handle the z-finder and the shooter when I was looking at a Canon 7D here in Toronto. I was totally impressed with the z-finder and the shooter was super-light and easy to use. I'm not kicking myself for buying them now but the guy ended up selling the z-finder, the shooter and his 7D for $2800 Canadian (no lens with the 7D though). You get what you pay for and if the Zacuto products are as good as people say, then you pay for it. Myself, I can't afford them but if I start making more $$$, then I would consider using their products.

Interesting. I was about to buy a Z Finder from Abel's NY store but it looks like Zacuto has abandoned the glue-on frame design for a design that requires a mounting plate to hold the finder up against the LCD screen. See:

I wonder if they were getting complaints from people about having to glue on the mounting frame. It looks like the new design is only $20 more. I wonder how having that metal plate attached to the bottom of the camera will impact hand held performance.

the new design removes the bogen quick release. Adds weight if you have to add the quick release. I like the Rapid Fire better except for the Target shooter's angle adjustable joint looks better.
