Looks very nice... I have many questions concerning the frame and tracks. Can you give us a run down on how it is constructed? Did you have someone weld the frame and the triangular wheel mounts? What is the track? Thanks.
- Material is Aluminum
- Frame 28 w x 40.5" L
- Thickness of frame .125
- Trucks .250
- Stainless bolts and lock nuts
About 50 hours of work including the welding. Lots of measuring and cutting, and of course welding. We didn't weld the frame, had one of our manufacturing companies here in Naples, FL do it. They have more than 35 years in the business, long story short they're the best !!!
This is a prototype of the soon to be dolly we're thinking about selling. This dolly can be used on a small to large budget film, but really isn't for the run and gun setup, it has weight to it. The more weight, the smoother the shot. Extremely smooth and solid as rock. If I was to guess the weight, it has to be atleast 70 lbs with the 3/4" top attached. The final trucks won't have the pockets on top and bottom. Nice feature we're thinking about adding is sound damping to the frame for the audio guys.
We're also looking into straight & 360° aluminum 4' sectional tracking system, with locking pins, adjustable rubber feet, etc..
I know the wood isn't the most pleasing look, but does cut out alot of sound when rolling on aluminum track and PVC. What do you guys think, wood (less noise) or metal sheet (More pleasing look, louder noise) ?
The rails used in the pictures are made from either PVC or abs. We also have them in black.
Loved the videos. I think your work is at the level that most people here aspire to attain. Congratulations. The dolly work was invisible as it should be. That means it was great. Super smooth and didn't detract from your story lines. Santa I want a dolly of my very own for Christmas...
