New Demo Reel

Hey everybody,

I've been on these boards for a while, but haven't posted much.

I just cut a new demo reel.

http://fenris.berry.edu/~aupchurch/Movies/AUPortfolio.wmv (16.7mb)
(Right-click, Save-As)

The first footage was from a Sony DVCam from college.
The Nature Cinematography is all DVX.

I am thinking of putting the full opening scene from The Scope footage at the end of the reel, thus running it about 2:50, instead of 2:00.

I'll be applying to grad school with this so please be harsh.

i really dont know about that sound mix you've got in there...i love the video but that music really gets on my nerves...

its got a good variety of shots in there.

Its too bad that The PC powers that be have become so powerfull. I think the banned add is all in good fun and reminds me of my youth when you could go out on the streets with a wooden toy gun and have fun with your friends. That being said, I wouldn't want to show the commercial in Columbine! My two cents. Mad Doug K out. Oh yeah the demo reel, could ya make an mov for us mac people?

I'll work on that. I see what you mean about pacing.

Since it's my work, I generally don't like it anyway, so it's hard to notice pacing issues. ;-)

Thanks!

You're kidding right?

It's only one film? Then why don't you show the whole thing?!

This ain't a reel, it's a preview clip of one film. Not bad, but honestly, only one film?

Cheers, mate and good luck!

i agree with taubkin. this is a video of what i guess is you. it's not about your work. we need a variety of shots, fast paced, catch peoples attention. IMHO, i didn't think any of those shots were specatular. sorry to say man, but atleast i'm being honest.

yes, this might be ok for a beginning film student, but you're going to graduate school with this, they probably want a little bit more don't cha think?
the one shot that did get my attention was the spider, boy did that guy come outta nowhere!
best of luck

Im in no way suggesting I could do better, but as a demo reel I found the overall images a little boring, and saw nothing that stood out for me. Not that they were bad either..... get my meaning?

Thanks for being honest. But no, it's not me. How could I be D.P. and the lead?

This was the only movie I have been able to make. Grad school doesn't require you to be an undergrad film student. Just have a passion for it.

Working full time now, doesn't really give me the opportunity to spend weeks making a film.

I'll continue working on the pacing issue though.

Thanks guys.

Guess you only watched the first minute. Which people in the industry would do, but it has general cinematography at the end.

and because of this fact, i would put more interesting shots in the beginning to get the industry peoples attention, and then have the clips you started with in the middle, and then end with something just as exciting as the beginning.

I think there are some excellent shots here, but you definitely need to quicken the pace of the video. The editing has everything sort of dragging.
