New deal from Sony for the F3

It isn't clear if the new announcements, particularly the sLOG at $899 if that is worldwide yet or not. Crithary just stated on Twitter that the announcements are USA only unless stated otherwise.

Call me slow on the uptake, but am I reading this correctly? The F3 now comes with slog standard at no additional cost?

Yes. They have discontinued the previous SKUs or packages available which was the standard F3 body with a few accessories and the F3 with a few accessories and the 3 PL lens prime kit. The new SKUs are essentailly the same to kits but with slog preinstallled at a similar price to the old ones. Again they state this, at the moment, applies to USA only until they state otherwise.

Current price for the F3 body only at Abel-Cine is 13,900. I paid 13,300 for my F3 last year, which was ordered in late 2010.

I got my sLog for $899 so I can't complain, but Sony is doing a weird job of producing customer loyalty and pretty odd marketing.
They throw an upgrade into the new comera for free and charge $900 for early adopters to get the same thing and making it neccessary to send the camera in thus overloading their repair benches.
Not to mention punishing early sLog adopters with a huge $3700 fee they won't do much about and leaving every country in the world to set their own policy. Something seems off over there.
They could put this on an SDHC card and send it out for practically nothing and/or probably post it as a download.

Thanks. This is perfect timing. I'm about to pull the trigger on an F3 and was really happy about the $899 slog upgrade. This is even better.

I think that this has much to do with the C300 that steals some thunder at a similar price.
A lot of guy are so in love with their Canon glass, that they are delighted, that they now can have a camera that talks to the lenses natively.

I guess Sony had to respond somehow, and throwing in S-log that costs them virtually nothing but is a huge plus in the camera was the next best thing they could do.

No doubt that's the reason but they seem to be floundering in their response. I'd like to see just an adapter for Nikon glass that enables steady shot. Oh well not holding my breath

#PMWF3, #F3, 10 bit #SLog package, CBK-RGB01 is now available for order at new price of $899.00
The way this is worded, it sounds like they might be going back to the card method for the S-log. Saying that it is "now available for order at a new price" $899 was the price before they stopped because they ran out. I had my name on the list for the upgrade, but was informed they ran-out an would be contacted when or if they continued the program.

Anybody else know any info on this, hopefully they went back to the card method, since they dropped the card prices too.

Well my Australian dealer said they confirmed with Sony Australia that the new upgrade deal was definitely on an SxS card.

Ahem.... Early adopters of the F3 paid $3700 for sLog.

That's what I meant by

"Not to mention punishing early sLog adopters with a huge fee they won't do much about "

But your right and I inserted $3700 into previous post. Glad I missed that one.

Anyone know why they went away from the card method?

Timur... I feel your pain man. Even having the S-log for 5 months doesn't feel like it long enough to have Sony make it for free for new purchasers or should they have reduced the price. Even with the rebates, it feels like a cheap bandaid. I still feel that I just bought it yesterday. My pocket feels very empty and now I see there's a hole in it. Come on Sony!

Both Abel Cine and B&H show the CBK-RGB01 for $899 - backordered for 2-3 weeks. I can't see where it says how it's delivered. Anyone know if it still comes on an SxS card? Depending on the size of the card, it would essentially be free.

hmm I guess I'm glad I only ever did rentals for slog and never bought it? It is a very strange move, and an even odder move to alienate early adapters. I have one of the very first F3's in the country, my serial number is extremely low as well. Yet I dont get any break for a "loyalty" situation because I happened to have gotten mine before all their other rebates. What does that say, that because I completely trusted sony and bought the camera first, I am specifically NOT rewarded with any kind of rebate at all?

I still am happy the price drop, and it does suck for everyone else... I have a sneaking suspicion theres more to this than meets the eye.... Hear me out...

Why drop the price on something this pricey? it cost next to nothing for them to sell.... Unless they have a NEW option that will basically REQUIRE the RGB upgrade... So instead of pissing off everyone even more by forcing RGB upgrade of 4k on top of other new updates, they drop the price to "free" for the RGB so that their new updates are compatible.

What I'm saying is this... I think Sony is moving to do 50mbit 422 internal, but can't do that without charging for the upgrade AND for the camera to be brought in. But with all the updates needed, they felt it better to bandaid the constant pricey updates by dropping the 899 or "free" on people. This way new adapters will feel more open to paying for the 50mbit 422 option which could end up costing 1500 or so and require you to send the camera in...

Its the only thing I can think of. I feel sorry for everyone else who just bought a $4k product only for it to be free to anyone who wasnt "loyal"... kinda backwards but still thats technolagy. I guess I'd be hurting more if I actually bought it. I'm more upset that the exclusivity of the coveted slog is no longer.

Please Sony bring down prices on your damn 444 recorder... no one in their right mind would pay that price when competitors have options at same or better prices. They wanna make up for it, then slash the RR1 recorder prices or cut SR media prices, killing people on the Slog is not wining anyone over except late adapters.

None of the other recorders (except Cinedeck) is close to SR1, which is packed with features and lots new coming soon. It's high-end recorder- different class than Samurai, Shuttle etc. It targets film market, not independent small producers and I would not expect price dropping lot anytime soon. It's not even the price of the recorder- look at prices for SR cards- even BBC said it's to expensive!

Regarding S-Log- nothing special- in todays market price changes by 50% sometimes over few months. Every company does it- not only Sony.
Teranex video processor use to cost 100K$ and than in a week (after BM bought Teranex) price was dropped to 20K$. What can you do?- nothing, just be angry.
