New computer for Premiere iMac vs PC (price)

I have two desktops, an 8 core early version 2007 MacPro and a quad core Hackintosh I built in 2010. I will be upgrading later this year as soon as I make a camera decision. I will be going with a dual platform hackintosh however not going with FCX but will make the move to Adobe Premiere Pro. Have FCX on one machine as well as FCP7 and won't bash it here , just don't like the iMovie interface. Though I always build my machines as dual boot, which hopefully in the future will also allow me to use Premiere Pro etc. on the Windows side or on a less expensive laptop in the field, I still prefer the Mac OS. It allows me to not have to deal with the computer as a computer, but as an appliance for editing. Turn it on and work no fiddling or dealing with computer issues, just edit. This is its main plus in my mind but I suppose if the machine is delegated to editing/production work only, there would be much less chance of it getting hit with all the Win specific nonsense that comes down the pike.
But whatever you decide, it is quite apparent that excellent, if not multiple graphics cards and max memory have started to out weigh cpu power for our work.

So in a marked change of pace, we have decided to buy a 27" iMac with an i7 and 5K resolution monitor. I found one from an authorized retailer that is new and not refurbished for ~2300. The extra money for a 27" monitor with 5K do in my mind represent a good value vs PC. Dell sells a 27" 5K monitor for 2,500. So getting a high powered computer plus monitor for that price is a great value. I still hate MacOS, but I am really excited to get my hands on that big and beautiful display.

I can use either having experience with both. When I got serious into editing I had my quad core AMD and an i5 imac. I took training in as many NLEs I could which included Avid, FCP 7 and X Premiere and Vegas. My NLE of choice with the best workflow that matched my creativity was Premiere pro on a PC and that's what I stuck with and ended up selling my macs. Now I have all my parts to build a nice powerful machine with win7 Ultimate I want to see what I can really do. I enjoyed the mac but it just wasn't for me and I don't have PC issues the biggest issue Id run into is my children sneaking on my machine playing Flash games and flooding my machine with bugs and spyware but besides that I havnt had any issues with windows running machines

Once apple started sealing imacs to prevent adding ram or replacing hard drives I stopped buying. If I'm in the middle of a post project and my main drive dies I need to be able to swap the drive and re-build from backups. I have no time to wait in a line and talk to a teenager in a blue shirt.

I still own mac Laptops as I have not experienced a PC laptop that felt as good but as far as my desktops go once I'm into the software they all look the same so I went with what fit my needs and that was a PC workstation.

Same here. My 2009 8c 2.93Ghz is still a solid machine. I dropped a USB3 card in it the other day and an SSD earlier last year which gave it some more life. I'll upgrade at some point, just no reason to for a while still. If I'm still in 1080 world...as long as this computer doesn't croak on me, I'll probably have it for years still.

Update: I finally got off my lazy ass and swapped in an SSD (480gb). 100 thank yous to users Kyle and Michael Carter for their help walking me through what is a very easy process.

If you have a tower in decent working condition DO THIS. Totally worth a few bucks to keep an old machine relevant. EDIT:My next step is to install a new internal drive for media, assets, ect. Any suggestions?
