New commercial

That was cool! As I was watching this, I was like ... okay. This said it all in a great and nontypical way. So many commercials that DON"t use a huge production company seem to look so cheaply made. This looked like it was done by a big production house ... which you're not, right?

Hey, I'm a one-man operation and I recently offered to do a commercial for a local pizza joint. I'm thinking fast action shots of these guys making their pizzas, customers enjoying it, etc. Your typical low-budget, locally shot commercial. Any suggestions on lighting and other considerations?

Your correct, this was very low budget. But the goal was to make it look as high budget as possible. As far as lighting and things go we just tried to make it look very natural. For most of interiors we just bounced a lot of the light to help diffuse it as well as some cheep china balls here and there. (Actually the china balls were on a different shoot) But as far as the exteriors go we just used some tyvek board as bounce cards. Worked like a charm. I tried to add a lot of movement to the piece because I feel that would give it a higher production feel. Plus it seemed to fit. A little secret though, the dolly was a radio flyer wagon we grabbed out of the garage.

Thanks once again, yeah I tweaked my scene settings a bit, I don't have the details with me right now because my camera is being borrowed by a friend right now but they are really similar to some of the suggestions Disjecta has posted. In post I just used the three way color corrector in FCP to crush the blacks, bump up the highlights and then adjust the midtones where necessary. Just a simple toning. The music was done by a friend of mine who had something for me in less than an hour. He's pretty damn talented so it's nice to work with someone like that. Once again I am glad you like it. As far as the whole jackass thing goes, anyone who has ever lived on a lake has taken their bike off a dock. And being from Minnesota, I think there might be a "few" people who will relate.

I live in Oklahoma and I can tell you I have fished more than my share of bikes out of Grand Lake! I thought that was a nice touch at the end.

nice work, your trying to tell me you used a radioflyer for all those nice motion dollyish shots?? I thought that was a stedicam.......

Dude.
Did you shoot any of the trials demo that was in St Pete a couple weeks ago??? I'm out of Minneapolis and know the guys that rode at the demo for that shop!

Very cool!

Loved It! You did what only the great commercial makers do......make it interesting and fun to watch. I mute commercials when I watch TV.....except for SuperBowl. I would not mute yours.

Buck, I wasn't able to make it to the bike demo that The Spoke put on but I gave my little brother the camera for the day and had him get some stuff for another promo I am working on. I haven't watched the whole tape yet but the stuff he got of the trials riders looked pretty sick. Which one was your friend?

hhaha all of them...John, Dave, Pete, Brian, Rudy. I know the whole crew...I'm pretty busy in the bike scene.

Two videos highlighting the fringe side of mtn biking, then I do lots of dh/fr bike events in MN, and a **** ton of trail building all over the state. I'll be in Duluth with them in June 9th-11th shooting them doing there thing along with an event I'm running up there that incorporates this www.redbullillume.com there should be like 30-40 riders up there plus some photog and couple video guys...you might be interested PM me!!!
