New chinese Nikon - NEX - speedbooster, $200

I'd like to know how it solves your problems..

Which zoom would you match with it to have ultra wide angles without tossing 2k $ ?
 
I think this looks great - bought a 28-85 nikkior for use with one of these - one lens shooting manual focus 2.8 zoom lens!
 
You have to wonder whether optical quality of the glass can match Metabones. It needs to be tested side by side
 
Jazzroy, i'd like to use the 17-35 nikon with it, you can get it for a reasonable price, used.

Evilthought, i would be interested in some tests to, i wont buy it until it is not tested... I think it's harder to build a high quality teleconverter than a speed booster like this one, so it shouldn't be that bad hopefully. The R.J.s adapters seem to be pretty good from what i've read about their normal nex canon version.
 
Currently waiting on mine. Ordered on April 23rd from that same eBay auction. It's been slow to ship, my tracking info still gives me nothing. The seller said he's had some other people say they haven't been getting any tracking updates either, so there might be a hold up sending them out of China. Hopefully I get it in the near future and I can post my thoughts on it.

A lens I didn't know.. that could be really an interesting solution!
We'll have to wait for some review of the adapter to check it's quality.
Anyway all this workaround just because Tokina has a bad commercial strategy!
They have a perfect 11-16 2.8 lens, all we need is manual aperture on it.
Putting an aperture ring and removing electronics would cost Tokina less than the original lens, and instead they came out at NAB with a CINE version costing... 2k$, losing hundreds of potential buyers.
Absurd!

with that 17-35 you'll get around 12-25mm which is wide enough for everything i need.
 
Got mine. Still kind of debating whether or not to keep it. Of course it doesn't have aperture control, meaning that the only lenses I have that work with it are my 35mm T1.5, 50mm f1.4, and 85mm f1.4, because they have manual aperture control. I think it might be worth keeping almost exclusively for the fact that it gives me an ultra-fast 26mm-equivalent when combined with my 35mm lens. My other lenses are the Tokina 11-16 and Nikon 17-55, which are for cropped sensors already so they wouldn't really benefit from the focal reduction but I wouldn't mind a speed boost on the 2.8.

Hopefully they'll find a way to add an aperture adjustment ring to it in the future...

omg what a difference, i guess it gets way more visible on the wide side... did you also have time to shoot something in lowlight? how do you like the build quality, do the lenses mount firmly?

What difference does low light make for the speed booster? It bumps the lens up one stop or so...
The built quality is fine. All metal and glass. Fit and finish nice. Good material quality . Surface finish nice and even.
Machined very well.
It's engraved- not silk screened.
Some engraving filled with paint.
Definitely way above typical Chinese workmanship.
I would say somewhere between Taiwanese and Japanese workmanship level- pretty close to the latter.
Both the (booster) fit to the camera and lens fit nice and snug.
The back side mount that fits in the camera is part of the main housing- aluminum so it will wear out.
The front lens receiver is a typical chrome plated brass with springs so it will also loosen up with time. how long I don't now....

BTW I'm selling mine- just needed it for the testing. Asking same amount I paid for it-$200

the booster will magnify both the field of view and the width of aperture which gives an extra stop of light onto the sensor. so in dark situations you'd effectively get more light focused onto the sensor with that new wider and faster lens.
thanx for the info on the build, i'm in la area and might be interested in the adapter. what mount is it?
 
I know what it does. What difference does it make if I test it in low light? It will still boost the stop the same- that won't change in low light..
I think you can see the aberrations more in high contrast, high detail images like the ones I posted..
