Yeah, the camera will shut off every five minutes if you have a tape in it. It will not shut off while recording, just if you leave it idle in camera mode. I guess it protects incidences where the camera is left on accidently, and it protects the battery from dying.
I dont know about the audio. I dont want to be obvious, but have you tried turning up the volume (located above the lcd screen)?

thanks![/quote]
Betcha ya did what I did on vacation...had it set to external mics but no external mics hooked up...
check all the buttons and make sure they are set properly for audio capture when recording. I think the main thing I did was what was said earlier- I had one of the switches set to external or somehting like that.
Thanks, but it seems to be something else as DV tapes recorded on the camera are fine. The tapes I'm having trouble with were recorded on a Canon xls-1 at 30p,
thanks again,pb

Ah, well. Silent films can be fun, too...

I just did that this weekend. I came home and I wasn't having any sound. And I said, what's wrong with this camera? Then I remembered that the previous weekend I shot with an external micro. Good I recorded the sound on my MD. But now, can you imagine synching the sound with the footage? What a f***ing nightmare.
