New big f'en bag for DVX!

Got tired of rigging mics and lights every time I use the DVX. So I got a big freekin bag, a Tenba Cineluxe Backpack 24, picked it up for just under $300: http://www.tenba.com/products/cineluxe-backpack-24.aspx
It holds the DVX with shotgun mic attached; a lav receiver; and a big LED light with enough room for chargers, AC adapter, spare batteries, clap board, scripts, cold shoe adapters, cheese grater base, LAV x-mitter, filters (CPL) and a few other things! Holds camera securely once you get the guts of the thing configured. Can really be used as a backpack if you need to pack stuff into a remote shoot. Too big for carry on, and not tough enough for checked bags (Pelican case for that) but for local shoots or car transported stuff it's great. Just thought I'd pass this along since questions about bags for this thing seem to pop up regularly.

Looks Good! Gee, Tenba has really stepped up the last few years, huh?

Thinking of getting something like this (perhaps VERY MUCH like this) for my C300... So thanks!

Jim

Looks like a really nice bag. It is about 4 inches longer than most average sized bags. Those extra couple of inches really make a difference. Maybe you could review the bag and post a video. Let us know how you like it after using it, etc.

Any chance of you being able to carry this on a flight? Looks a bit long but if it's skinny enough to fit in overhead easily, could be an instant purchase, haha.

Technically, it's too big for official carry on by a few inches. BUT you may be able to get away with it. Unfortunately, if you get caught they would make you check it and I don't think it's tough enough to survive airline baggage gorillas! The next size smaller of the same bag is 21" and is supposed to be carry on compliance. It's just those three extra inches, for me, make all the difference in being able to drop it in rigged up.

Glad to hear the bag worked out so well. We definitely designed the 24" bag to do exactly what you showed in the photos, which is to fit everything assembled so you eliminate breakdown and set-up time between locations. The 24" model is too large for carry-on, but the 21" is carry-on compatible.

Michael,

How's the backpack aspect of this bag working for you? Comfortable yoke/straps?
Is there a "top strap" to hold the camera in place?
Also, how long is your camera head to tail?

Peter,
So there's a 21-inch and a 24-inch version of this bag/backpack, right? I don't think any local dealers have these in stock right now...so I ask you...
My C300 with it's typical in-a-hurry* 17-55 lens is about 14-inches long, 13-inches high. Will the 21-inch version be big enough for the camera, an extra lens or two, etc? Any pix available of a C300 in your Cineluxe backpack?

Thanks

*I really hate the term run-and-gun. Not sure why....

I'm not sure where the term "run and gun" comes from, really. I understand there's a lot of hunting and smallarms wordplay used in photography, but "run and gun" is a bit much. I don't care for it, either. I would prefer to say "EFP" and having people know what I'm talking about. I also prefer "reality" or "docu". "Pick up and shoot" maybe? Is there really a standard term for grabbing the camera out of the bag, turning it on and shooting that isn't ENG/EFP-related and not a term Millennials decided on with their cute litttle DSLR rigs...which are ironically awful at running and gunning.

Hey Jim, the backpack "works" and it indeed has a tie down strap in the bag for the camera but I have mine wedged in pretty tightly. It does make for a big backpack, but if the option is CARRYING vs. using the backpack, I'll take using the backpack! I can't wear it as I would my Think Tank Airport Accelerator, which I have loaded up with a 5D3 & a small ENG type Canon recorder, a few lenses, and the usual support kit. With that pack I'd take off across country wearing it on my motorbike (and have). The Tenba is a different beast, for a different mission, and the Think Tank is considerably smaller. I also discovered I can get my 7" monitor AND a big led light AND the lav receiver on the camera and it fits in the bag nicely. Camera's probably about 22"-23" head to tail WITH the Panasonic microphone & deadcat (it stick out about an additional 5" in the front) and the eyepiece which also seems to stick out the back by about an inch. Forgot to add, it is actually pretty comfortable and secure as a backpack - sinch everything down snugly and it's not moving on you but it does feel big.

Peter - maybe a thought for a 2.0 version... some way to secure all the backpack straps when using "bag" mode. Over time they are going to get pretty grimy and they can get in the way when loading/unloading a pile of gear. Maybe some kind of expandable pocket they can be stuffed into or fabric "false bottom?" Just a thought... still a hell of a bag for the $$$. Appreciate you guys creating it!

Oh, not to hijack my own thread, but I also have come to dislike the term "run & gun". I've gravitated to using "Correspondent's Style" vs. "Production Style". A lot of non video people seem to get it straight away. The difference being one shoots under less than optimal conditions, often hurriedly, with little to no staging; the other implies more complete control over the shoot. If I want to kill the conversation in a social setting I just say "I shoot porn" (though I don't... really...) and that usually stops any discussion dead in it's tracks.

Correspondent's Style!!!! I LIKE that!

Lots of times people just assume I shoot porn. I can't even get anyone to have lunch with me! lol

I like the term, "run and gun." It is used in sports, like basketball, tactical shooting, and video. Very versatile and has that kick ass quality to it (ya, right). You would never use the expression when talking with a client. It's slang. Run and gun, simply means you are taking it on the fly or on the run (pun). I think it is OK for people to use the term, just don't use it when talking with a client. As I have gotten older, I do not "run and gun" as much, now I "walk and gun."

Right. I heard someone say we can't say "shoot" anymore because it ain't PC. Have to say "record." I don't like that. You "record" audio, you "shoot" images. The terms come from hunting and soldiering. It even uses the same system of measurement standards. What do you think ISO stands for? Or NATO? We say "shoot," carnsarnit. Be more uppity about it and say "videoshoot." "Pick up and shoot video" works for me. IDK. IDRC, either. Can they afford my day rate, that's what I want to know first. My "day job" is actually working in the medical field. I'm also a pilot. Over the years I've developed a bit of a distaste for "jargon" or "slang". I guess it's because I was brought up in a school that was damn near a military academy and taught the Queen's English. People can use whatever term the want, I don't care. I've got enough gray hairs to not have to fit in with the selfie stick generation anymore - or even try. For me, I try to be as simple and concise as I can because deep down I really hate talking with most people, especially if I have to be PC and deliberate in my words. But I digress... There's a sticker on one of my camera cases which is a re-purposed military weapons case that was there when I got it. Never took it off. A quote from General Patton (I really like him...) that I suppose fits both it's new video mission as well as the case's original application (and appeals to my disdain for political correctness): "It's OK to shoot sons of bitches, just make sure they are the RIGHT sons of bitches!"

Do you mean PC as in personal computer? Technically we do not shot video, do we? And why are people still saying, I am going VIDEOTAPE that event? So to end the confusion, I am using the term VIDEOCARD. Next week, I am going to "Walk and Gun," and VideoCard an event. Now maybe we can all just get along. Perfect solution and pure genius. Let's all agree on the term VideoCard being the correct nomenclature.

Next week, I am going to "Walk and Gun,"

Don't let anyone hear you say that out loud, these days someone will think you're a terrorist ...and since you've written it down on a public forum you're as sure as hell already being 'investigated'!

(LOL).

LOL I think we got a bit off track. Would like to see a shot video of how you use the bag. How well your DVX200 fits inside with your recorder or mic attached and use of the backpack. Even an iphone vid would be good.
