No matter what the image circle becomes from a s16 or 2/3" lens on a 4k sensor you can crop it in post however much you like to avoid any lens edge blurring or vignetting. Sure this might put you in the neighbourhood of 1280x720p resolution but at least there is no light or quality loss this way going through all the extra glass. I mean if you do magnify with glass is it really going to be any better than doing a blow-up from 720p to 1080p in post instead? I blew tons of 720p on the F3 to 1080p and its not too shabby.
Also some 2/3" ENG lenses have a built-in doubler which if you engage should give you around 3000x1600 pixels without any other additional magnifiers. This is 2k easily. I'm sure over the past 7 years someone with a RED has tried a straight mechanical adapter with a 2/3" ENG lens and the 2x double engaged. Time to google...
By the way I found these format sizes from one of my old posts on the MTF's B4 adapter (hope they are right):
Sensor Sizes:
Super35 25mm x 14mm
Sony F5/F55 24mm x 12.7mm
Sony F3 23.6mm x 13.3mm
AF10x 17mm x10mm
Super16 film gate 12.52mm x 7.41mm
2/3" 8.8mm x 6.6mm
