New cards appear to be coming from Sony, word on the street is prices will be around $4,000 (1TB) and $2,000 (new 512GB).

My only comment is that US street pricing vs. Japanese MSRP has a lot of factors to work in.

Basically, Japanese MSRP is historically higher than US MSRP when you do a simple exchange rate conversion.

My guess is the 512 will land at $1800, just like the big AXS.

They had to have come up with this for a reason, I'm more interested in whatever that info is than just having a smaller card :-)

I agree with Nate.

There is going to be some insane reason why these new cards are SXS size and will fit into the camera body SXS slots as well...

If nothing else this would seem to imply you could eliminate the need for a specialized card reader. Making it readable from Express34 laptop slots and the USB-3 SxS card reader would make things a lot more friendly for the DIT folk of the world.

What's a bit of a shame is how much it sticks out, preventing any such door from closing. That's not good.

I think that is for demonstration purposes; lining up my sxs card and AXS card right now, the sxs is a little bit shorter than the AXS card.

If the AXS adapter is the same size as the AXS card, there is still plenty of room to shut the door even if the sxs sticks out,

I am one of the confused person with that picture too, but I confirmed with sony through a local seller that the door closes properly.

The seller also said the new 1TB memory will be sold with a some premium price though prices of 512GB cards will be reduced.
Actually new 1TB memory's market price in Japan revealed 235% of 512GB cards and 512GBs are get cheaper by about 100 bucks.

When I get the new 512GB card, I will try with SxS slots of F55 and USB reader :)

Think of it this way: One of the big complaints from owners with F5/55 is the need to buy into a second set of media in order to access RAW capture. What if you could make a new high capacity card that was fast enough to capture RAW but could be put into the same form factor as the other media. So depending on what kind of job a guy was shooting on a given day, he could stick the card in the RAW recorder slot or stick it in the side of the camera for video recording. Moving to the same physical media vastly reduces the buy in cost of getting the RAW recorder.

Just sayin'...

Yes, Mitch.
As I got my R5 recorder a few days ago, my first complaint is about the lack of a very simple way switching between 4K XAVC and raw, though I also begin to wish I could shoot all of the footage by raw.

Even more crisp image, pure color, low noise especially in shadows ..., now I understand why they demand raw for grade.

Just update.
New AXSM A-series card doesn't seem to work in an SxS slot even if the FW is upgraded.
It is same in height and width as SxS cards but about double in thickness, much more pins in the connector.
No chance at all.

Did you actually try a card in the camera SxS slot?

Just want to be sure as I'll cancel the order if it won't.

Cheers.

Yes, I got it with me today.
It's completely different in mechanical and electrical design, just a high density, low power consumption version of AXSM card as officially said.

As crazy as it sounds, maybe a new camera... F65 update?

I doubt if we'll ever see an F65 replacement, by all accounts the camera's been a massive flop (a lot of rental houses are already trying to flog theirs off). The F55 has totally cut its lunch. I'd be surprised if Sony's focus doesn't switch primarily to the smaller/lighter/ergonomic style of the F5(5) from here on out.

F65 owners are already getting antsy at not getting the constant upgrades the smaller Fs are.

I wouldn't say its a flop. Can't see any films shot for major motion pictures using an F5 or F55. But who's to say..

You're kidding me. This makes zero sense.

I want to clarify: these "SxS" cards do NOT fit in the existing SxS slot?

I'm not talking about being recognized. If they fit, being recognized will come later in a FW update.

Yep, F65 was DOA. The folks in my world started selling their F65's with zero rental hours. Zero. I spent huge money developing a fiber/power/accessory integrated system for it. Never really saw the light of day because owners had no reason to invest even more into a system they were already worried about. They only wanted to get what they could, unload it and move on. That camera nearly put me in a grave.

It was, in my opinion, too awesome. Too much information. Too complicated to deal with initially. To make it even harder, it was pulled out of the oven too early. No one wanted that kind of RAW from the camera.
