Hey everyone, welcome our new Avid Moderator, Matt Gottshalk. (McgeeDigital)


Matt Gottshalk, Producer/Editor. Matt has 14 years experience in visual media - from film/video commercials to motion graphic design. His clients have included advertising agencies and public relations firms, and federal and state government agencies. He has produced videos for both political parties, and the Baltimore Ravens football team. Matt's approach to editing and animation has resulted in numerous television industry awards, including several Telly's and a Silver Award from the Houston Film Festival.


Matt has been editing on Avid systems since 1991, including Media Composer & Symphony, to Adrenaline and Xpress Studio.

He owns McGee Digital Media in Alexandria, Virginia.
 
I want to thank Jarred for letting me mod one of the best online digital filmaking forums on the net.

I currently own a DVX100 (1st gen.) and am on "the list" to get the HVX-200 when it hits the stores. I've also shot with arri S 16mm cameras and of course, the old workhorse, BetaSp.

I currently have an Xpress Pro Studio Complete HD system running on a HP xw8000 with 3 gigs of ram and a 1.5 TB SCSI drive array.

I often run Lightwave or After Effects along with my Avid app, so if you have any questions about workflow I hope I can be of help there as well.

Yes.. Matt and Micheal should be able to satisfy you Avid guys for sure, Nothing like having the cream of the crop to ask.

The 720p and VFR will work right out of the gate! Direct editing off of P2 is already supported in the shipping version...

I just meant you guys are going to be busy when the HVX comes out, for all of us who haven't dealt with HD yet.

Like everyone else I'm chomping at the bit to get the HVX200 too!

I've already got clients asking about HD production, and I think (know) Panasonic will step up to the plate as they did with the DVX100.

You are no doubt familiar with the Stargate movie and series. I would like to explore ways to mimic the stargate portal effect. That shimmering pool of liquid that people walk into is a very cool effect.

I'm looking for a workflow that can be achieved in Studio HD complete.

I also have BCC AVX but you mentioned other products, so how would you achieve this effect using Studio and any other add-ons?

Okay guys... some of us Mac AXP people are feeling left behind. I am waiting for Avid to get in gear and support HD and HVX for their Mac version. Just tired of feeling like a step child...

Any thoughts Michael on the Mac side of things and the HVX? Will this next Mac version support Panasonic codecs (I have just picked up a deck to run DVC Pro 25 & 50 over firewire). Also thinking about a Mojo but was hoping they would update it at NAB. I will be hanging with Avid until the HVX comes out and see how things play out and then...

Avid has been saying on the road tours currently going around the country that full Mac parity for Xpress Pro and Adrenaline are scheduled for end of year. This would mean HD and all other associated codecs (DNxHD, etc, native HDV, DV25, DV50, DVCPRO100, etc. ).

Any idea on how to make AVID 4.1 send out 720 x 486 instead of the 480. I know that over firewire it is not able to go over 486, but I can settle for the SVHS or composite outputs without a problem.

BUT I need to up the lines. HELP!
