New Atomos Ninja Inferno : $995 HDR Recording Monitor : Records 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2

His, mine lacks the embedded videos that The Dingo put above....but I did post on another well known forum ahead of him

Come on Video Devices a well timed update to the Pix-e range that adds 4K 60p would be ideal as the GH5 drops.. *crosses fingers*

So why on earth would anybody still buy a Ninja Flame for $1,295? Will we see the price get slashed on the Flame or will it be discontinued? A Flame at $600 or $700 would be a nice option for all those cameras still limited to 4k 30p.

Atomos adjusted their prices today: the Shogun Flame is now $995 US and the Ninja Flame is now $795 US.

None of the sellers have updated this yet. The new Flame list price doesn't mean much until those that actual sell it adjust their prices as well.

Kind of a bummer for those that just spent $1295 on a new Flame. That is a $500 price drop. Good for me however since the Flame may provide most of what I need. I never shoot DCI, have perfectly fine external XLR audio recorders and my GH4 only shoots 4k up to 30p as does most 4k cameras out there so perhaps a Flame is a good option for now. Maybe it is time to finally upgrade my Ninja Blade.

If you mean a firmware update I doubt it. HDMI ports have standards and many of the current 4k recorders use an HDMI standard that can never be made to support 4k 60p. If you mean a whole new product I agree it might be time to update the Pix-e. Keep in mind however not a lot of cameras can do 4k 60p yet. In fact there are not a lot of 4k cameras out there with solid HDMI/SDI ports even. Video Devices will have to decide if there is enough ROI to build a whole new Pix-e right now. They may wait until there is a wider range of cameras to support which means a larger market share.

Got really excited, but am bummed this isn't a smaller, thinner, and lighter body design. 5.5" or at least thin and light (drop the XLR - more like the smallHD502 but with an SSD recorder) would have been perfect for run'n'gun mounting and recording at ultra HQ. Also bummed this doesn't do HD 180fps as the Inferno does 240 and this one is "built for the GH5".

Miss for me but no doubt a good product if you were considering the Shogun

Be careful for what you wish for. I have a 5" Atomos Ninja Blade which is a great device but 5" is still sometimes tough for manual focus. 7" is kind of the sweet spot to be able to really see what is going on. 5" is still a massive improvement over the 3" camera LCD but I now want to move from 5" to 7" even if it is bulkier. Honestly even with a 7" monitor a GH5 rig is still lighter than video cameras I used to shoot with and lighter than a rigged Ursa Mini.

There is still not a single retailer that will sell the Ninja Flame for the new price of $795. Some sites are listing the Flame as on sale or reduced price but are still selling it for significantly more than what Atomos said the list price will be. In fact not a single retailer is selling it for less than the Inferno and some are even selling it for more than the Inferno.

If one wants to buy a Ninja Flame I would suggest holding off until Atomos and retailers figure this out and set the prices where they should be. Also be careful buying a used Flame right now as most people are selling it for more than the $795 new list price of the Flame.

A retailer can set any price it wants above the contract stipulated MAP. Most car dealers will hike their stickers for the new hot models. And if the model is really hot, hot, hot, then the premium can be in tens of thousands.

Atomos doesn't sell direct.

I understand a retailer can set whatever price they want but the retailers are setting the new Inferno to the $995 list price and setting the list price higher for the Flame which is an older model with less features.

Just letting people know if they want to buy a Flame they might be better off waiting for the price to adjust or to just buy an Inferno for future proofing. I would have replaced my Blade with a Flame at the $795 price point but if retailers will not cooperate then forget the Flame and I might just wait and get an Inferno instead even though I don't need 4k 60p right now.

saw a 795 basic kit version the b&h website.

Odd that it is listed as a new item coming soon while the Flame is also listed as a current product for a higher price. Same product but B&H looks like they are trying to get away with charging a higher price for the older stock.

basic kit contains only a bag, a caddy and xlr breakout cable. unlike the full kit that contains batteries chargers and sunhood
