New Application to Log and Review Scene File Settings ... ...

I was saving Custom Scene File Settings data for my HMC 150 to blank spreadsheet template print outs for storage and review. I decided to build a sort of central repository dBase application that runs on top of SQLite. It's a Core Data doc based app.

This is sceneFile for Mac:

Besides the obvious support for settings, the "Bank" tokenFiled is useful for organizing Scene Files into searchable groups.

I need to add some code so that the application runs the previously saved document at launch. Also Sparkle for automatic updates ...

Wow, when can we test it out :)

It would be cool if theres a way to 'simulate' the scene settings on the computer :)

This would be nice. It's beyond my coding capabilities.

So do you think the application would be useful? I'm not really a developer and I tend to build stuff that suits me, forgetting the big picture. As I said I have a small stack of sloppy, printed out spreadsheets with scene files and associated notes. This application will make it easy to keep things organized.

By the way I've built this thing to make it easy for users to share dBase files. I spent most of yesterday building it. I hope to finish this stage of the project sometime early in the week.

Yes, this looks really clean and a great way to see the 'whole picture' so to speak on a particular scene file...

Something that may be an easier to program would be to have an example of a screen shot (manually inputed) as a preview of the scene file captured from the camera. Barry's handbook comes with a ton of scene files with picture examples. If the scene file can accept another line of properties (for your particular app) then you can have the scene file point to a relative location of a picture!

Let us know how this is coming... and more importantly will there be some way to emulate this on a PC?

Thanks MadHMC150. Screen shot images are already supported ;). The textView Note area supports image drag and drop. I'm not sure if this is the best implementation, though.

I *could* add a secondary window that runs when pressing a button with an image container. Might be a better idea ... Thoughts?

As far as porting something like this over to a PC, I wouldn't be much help. I haven't used a PC in years and have no idea how to develop apps on that platform.

I see... Yeah I was thinking a more permanent area for at least a medium thumbnail, that can be clicked to get a larger popup...

I just imagine scrolling through them looking at the thumbnails to get 'the look' i am going for...

This is what I've done:

You can insert a screenshot for each Scene File and toggle through. The image well supports drag and drop and it will scale input images to 480x270.

ptfigg,

I love you!!!!!! This will make my life a million times easier! I have tons of scene files, and am always experimenting with new ones. This is a match made in heaven for the panny cameras!

I hope you set up a website so we can donate to the program.

Honestly, this is something that would have been nice if Panny had provided. If I were you I'd send them a copy of the program once it's done and see if you can license it to them.

The first thing that comes to mind is that this gives us some of the flexibility of RAW. Yes it's burned in, but with a very large amount of scene files that can quickly be changed and saved, in many circumstances having that cache would bring us a lot more freedom to quickly try out different looks or even just minor variations on a single look.

Thank you so much. I can't wait till we can try it out.

Cool my friend ;)

A site or home base for sure. I haven't decided about licensing and distribution. In fact I wasn't so sure if the app would attract any interest ...

I thought about contacting Panny. I'll see how it goes.

I hope this doesn't disappoint you ... the app doesn't "read" the Scene File txt docs output form the camera. You need to manually add a Scene File to the source list and then specify each setting, and save. You see I was logging all my personal Scene Files manually in multiple printed spreadsheet templates. The app acts as a central storage repository with support for searching, categorizing, and review.

Thank you so much. I can't wait till we can try it out.

I will keep you posted.
