New apple keyboard a suicide!

It's strange. Jobs is able to create the absolute best experience for consumers, and sometimes he suicides Apple with a so crappy idea that kills all the good.
This keyboard is aimed to kids and mouse freacks. But in the business, in the offices, in the IT world only a standard keyboard can have a future.
Apple should have at least offered, alongside with this crap, a normal keyboard.

Isn't the wired keyboard a standard keyboard? I thought only the wireless keyboard lost the key pad.

The black keyboard that Apple shipped with the PowerMac G4 Quicksilvers is the best, IMO. It's hit and miss with most of Apple's physical UI products.

Here's the keyboard in all it's demented glory:

It looks pretty neat but I highly doubt it will be comfortable to use. You have to have the tactile nature with proper depression on a keyboard to get a good experience. There's a reason why people often get a plug-in keyboard to go with their laptop.

This is just dumb.

*not impressed*

Isn't that keyboard primarily intended to go with the new Imac? A product that's arguably a form over function thing? I think Apple products like the Imac are designed so that if you have it in plain view... like in a studio apartment... that it adds to the decor and look of sophistication, rather then take away from it... as say... an old Packard Bell machine might ;-)

While not all Apple products impress me... I love the fact that they are about as big a contrast to PC as the commercials imply. Yes, the commercials are unfair at times... but what I'm saying is clearly Apple products are designed to LOOK as cool as possible... sometimes this ends up with a weaker overall product, but the great thing is that, much like luxury sports car companies, they are not only offering some attractive gadgets, but they are also shaping the architecture of the entire industry.

Apple is the anti-Borg. (TM-Matt G-2007)

I bought a $600 Acer laptop this spring... used it for 2.5 weeks... then saw a macbook in person... then sold my new laptop to my roommate for $450 and bought the macbook. Fit and finish is second to none... and the keyboard on this laptop is way nicer then the keyboards on most of the other laptops that I tried... and that has to do with the resistance and "click" of the keys... which I'm fanatical about. Yes the keys are flat and this thing isn't as nice as my fantastically ergo Dell keyboard on my home PC... but of all the laptops I tried I found this to be the best.

I'm half PC and half Apple... the love child of that fat dork and that skinny dork. I say you get a seperate keyboard that you enjoy for $10... then put it in the drawer with the yellowpages and plug in the Apple keyboard when you have guests over ;-)

HP bought Compaq. I think PB just took a dirt nap.

I hear their Euro branded company is the 3rd largest PC manufacturer there, though.

EDIT: Packard Bell US was bought by NEC.

the keyboard on my laptop kinda reminds me of the Apple one. sshort depression keys, etc.... its TERRIBLY uncomfortable.

I don't have as much of an issue with laptop keyboards, as I do with the touch pad. Just not nearly as easy to use as a mouse.
