Nice overall effect, IMO.

Panasonic AG-AF100 shooting at 60p. Canon EOS lenses: 20mm f/2.8 and 50mm f1.4 with Kipon EOS to m4/3 adapter.

Directed, Photographed and Edited by Sean Bloemer.

Music is "Echoes" by Pink Floyd.

Wow, that is some absolutely beautiful footage.
Would really love to know the scene file settings for that. The highlights looked quite pleasing. No doubt some grading involved. After seeing another thread, i'm really debating on what level of detail one needs so that fine details don't get lost in softness but still trying to avoid halo'ing.

Breathtaking! Wow.

This is the first I've heard of the Kipon adapter. Anyone here using it? I'm looking for a store to buy it from, but can only find them on Ebay.

Any reputable store selling these?

I have it. Had to buy it on ebay from Hong Kong.

DVX thread talks about these...

Thanks man. How do you like it? Feel flimsy? I'm blown away by the quality of Canon EF. I want (and have a collection of EF lenses already). I should say, I'm blown away that the Canon EF lens with AF100 can shoot something that beautiful (the snow video). I never expected EF to perform so well.

Can't purchase from ebay, though. I work for a University.

Thanks for your feedback (and for the links).

I don't understand why you're surprised. A lot of EF glass, L in particular, resolves very well to a 21MP (5DII) sensor, so the center (sweet spot) of an EF lens is more than good enough on a 2K (AF100) sensor. Even some glass I wouldn't consider shooting stills with (Tamron, Tokina, cheaper Sigmas, etc.) does very well on the AF100.

Well admittedly, I'm no lens expert. Everything I know about lenses has been through reading sites like DVX and through personal (limited) experience. We have some EF lenses for our 7D cameras, and from my reading I've come to the conclusion that they wouldn't be quality glass to shoot a film with on the AF100.

The snow video totally erased that impression. Maybe I misunderstood. Still learning!

The glass used is a matter of taste/vision/client requirements/etc. (lots and lots of variables), but I believe most EF glass is more than sufficient for most tasks, some of it is downright great. Hey, few if any on this forum can afford $250,000 worth of Cooke (nor would it always be the best lens choice) :D

I plan on learning until the day I die... and then keep on learning :D

Lenses do make a difference but on this little film test there are a few things IMO that made the two opening cuts exceptional. One, was the backlighting to front lighting ratio. The other was the slo-mo fx, it added some nice magic. The neon lights provided a dominant BG glow, the snow reflected enough light (along with any other behind camera lights) to define the girl's face just enough without over doing it. This resulted in a nice professional narrative look. Too many times front lighting is way over the top. The camera really shows it's stuff when good lighting is present.

The "Snow" clip was shot with the detail set at 0. After further testing I'm preferring the look of detail and v detail both dialed to -7. The 0 setting has quite a bit of edge enhancement.
