New Accessory Plate for AF100

UPDATE: After a few months delay I received a prototype accessory plate (aka a "cheese plate" or Berkey plate) from Brian Berkey. He actually finished it a month ago but due to a minor disaster with my house, NAB, and back to back shoots I just got around to mounting it and taking some quick pics in my office. He hand milled it. The fit and finish is perfect. A real feat given we did this whole thing long distance. He said if there was enough demand he would be willing to do a run. Please note the mix of 1/4-20 and 3/8-16 holes were just picked at random so if you would rather see a different hole pattern let him or I know. Otherwise what you see on my camera would be more or less what the final item will look like. I will try to get some better pics later and maybe put up a video. I plan on installing a couple of these at first: http://woodencamera.com/hot-shoe to side mount a pair of Sennheiser G3 receivers, but you could mount just about anything to the plate. It is VERY solid. Screws on/off so if you want to remount the factory handgrip it can be done in about 5 minutes. Let me know if you got any questions. You can also reach Brian directly at BerkeySystem.com

Cheers,

Sign me up!

I've been using one of Brian's Accessory Mounting Blocks bolted into one of those empty handle holes. Great way to attach a Zacuto arm for a monitor

And if you're looking to add a small cheese plate on the top of the handle, I've been using Wooden Camera's Easy Stick with much success. Bolts into the two 1/4-20's and adds about 50 more.

Brian mentioned something about working with somebody on accessories for the AF100 but his version was the guy met a girl, moved up north to never be heard from again. Was that you? :-)

I moved 30 min north of the cities. I emailed him a few times since with no response. I still have some of his parts I need to get back to him, so if you talk to him, tell him to call me.

I'll let him know. I think he was mostly joking. How far did you get? No sense reinventing the wheel. Sounded like it was more of a top plate design ala the FS100 than a side plate.

We talked about a side plate and it was the next thing we were going to work on. I wanted a place to mount a small handle out the front of it. We came up with a alpha top plate that I still have in my possession. It added a bunch of mounting hole as well as a way to mount and EVF off the side. It's a good idea, but I strongly suggested to him a actual top handle replacement would work a lot better than a plate. We never meet again after that to revise the alpha prototype.

Spoke with Brian on Friday. He said he's going to contact you to follow up. He sent me a link to a video of the rig you guys came up with. I doubt we will see that going in to production. Dealing with the top handle and mounting something topside on the AF100 is problematic. He is moving on to Epic/Scarlet stuff and doing a good business in FS100/F3 plates. I sense that if he takes this project on, it's best to keep it simple. A side plate is pretty straightforward and easy enough to build/design. Panasonic designed the camera to mount things there. He said he was going to take a look at an AF100 body to get some measurements and get back to me. Sounds like he is pretty busy these days, so I wouldn't expect anything too soon. He thinks it's doable but finding the time to do it will be the question. I sent Brian a link to this thread so he may check in from time to time.
