GH2 New A-cameras to match GH2...

Oh and one more post: I spent some time with teh GH3 at WPPI and I was really impressed. It IS better, significantly, than my beloved gh2. #1 It can lay down timecode! Can't sync it with external audio, but timecode at all is a useful pro feature. #2 much better menu layout and logical access to important things. The frame rates and data rates are all laid out on one screen and you pick the one you want. No more of this BS like "creative movie mode". It specifies frame rates and data rates and you pick what you want to shoot. No more translating back from Mickey-mouse fisher price language to numbers that we understand. #3 it's made of metal and is sealed. #4 Optional horizon line on your viewfinder! That's just me maybe, but discovering that a frame wasn't perfectly level in the edit is a drag. #4 headphone jack. #5 They say its a better sensor and a better codec.
Those were the things that struck me. but @thomas Smet has a good point- it will almost certainly lose value quicker than one of the video cameras he mentioned. The GH2 itself is not at all old, less than 2 years I think, but already its both not expensive and increasingly hard to find since they've stopped making them in favor of the gh3.

I agree about the GH cameras loosing value. However, the GH2 looks and feels like a toy.. I knew going in that the camera would not hold the value of my HMC150s or friends AF100. However, the GH2 is such a champ that I really don't care about the value loss. At this point, I have shot with these little cams so much that I wouldn't be surprised to have the cam wear out before being able to sell it. My 14-140 is already starting to have some minor iritations that come from very very very very very heavy wear. It gets used on every shoot, in almost every situation. The 20mm is a champ but has no zoom, it is still golden!

The price difference between the HMC40 an the ac90 is only about $500. $1500 vs $2000, give or take. I'd opt for the AC90 at the moment. I readily admit that I miss my 'VIDEO' cameras at times, but the tradeoff in quality to the GH2 was so worth it.

Again, thank you for your help. The 40 and 90 are both solid options for alternate cameras. Currently weighing all options...

I rented an AC130 for an upcoming gig. LOVE the camera and is exactly what I thought it would be. Any AC90/130/160 users care to suggest a scene file?

A bit late the party, and don't mean to beat flinty's video sample to death, but I'm wondering if his film profile settings include high amounts of sharpening and/or noise reduction. The moire issue looks like massive sharpening to me. Noise reduction can also exaggerate moire at time. All the more reason to shot with both at a minium (for me, anyway). My 2 cents, adjusted for inflation.

Very good point, this may explain it.
