New 5D MKII Firmware Lenses of Choice!

Now that we have the new firmware what are your lenses of choice for the 5D MKII?

Will you be sticking with Canon Lenses or still using Nikon/Contax/Zeiss etc.?

What's in your kit???

I am still sticking to my favorite lenses and now they include the use of the great canons. Why would you do anything different? There are lenses from each that are superior to the others and it just depends on which one. So now woohoo its a level field and anything goes !!!

I love my Zeiss 85mm ZF 1.4 and wouldnt stop using it for any other. Also this old crappy 200mm f4 Q Nikon is one of my favorites. Just gotta sort thru a few canons now...

Tokina 12-24 DX ATX F4.0 (yeah, I know, it is a DX lens) but it is good with the 5D MKII at 18.5mm and longer. I also have to fix open the aperture lever with a little scrap of index card. But the images look pretty good.

Nikon 50mm 1.4 AI
Nikon 85mm 1.8 preAI antique
Nikon 105 Micro 2.8 D

I might buy some Canon lenses eventually but all of the ones I would want cost thousands of dollars!

I've got nikkor ai 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 105mm. But I got rid of the 50mm 1.4 I didn't like the bokeh. I have a nice minolta rokkor MC f/1.4 that I'm going to try with an adapter and a sigma 15mm fisheye. I'm starting to gather M42 mount russian lenses too.

i just shot a car commercial with the 5D mark ii with the new firmware...i love this thing.

lenses are

Canon 16-35mm 2.8 L
Canon 24mm 1.4 L
Canon 35mm 1.4 L
Canon 50mm 1.4
Canon 70-200 4.0
Lens baby composer

...about to get a copy of the canon 85mm 1.2 L

Rich,

Looking forward to seeing it too. And really liked your cube commercial also, curious what camera was the Cube Spot shot on?

Thanks,
R

Still using Zeiss and Nikon the majority of time. The Canon 24-70mm f2.8 is a really nice, practical lens (albeit pricey--L) if you have to run and gun and don't have time to change lenses.

The same as before. Now more than ever, full Canon as much as possible. BTW, the Canon 24-105mm f/4 is the best run and gun lens offer nowadays.

Still waiting for my finances to become healthy, But my plan is:
Keep my 24-105 and 135 f/2
and add
Leica R:
21 f/4 (Already got, lovely lens)
35-70 f/4 ROM
90 f/2
180 f/3.4 APO Telyte.

Maybe a 28 f/2.8 or a Zeiss (Aargh!) 25 Distagon
Maybe a 35 f/2 and 50 f/2 (Both surprisingly pricey)
I'll have to see how things pan out.
Dave

Thanks Terry, will post something when its ready...thanks for the compliments on Cube...it was a fun one.

vcfilms - we shot Cube on arri film cameras.

I'm getting great results from the praised Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR ZL Di LD Aspherical (IF) at$372.75compared to its L counterpart it's a bargain.

Here's a vid I shot with it on vimeo: http://vimeo.com/5055585

These are all great Rich!

Big money but it looks like your name says it all!

Cheers for sharing man!

All Nikon here:

20mm f2.8
24mm f2.0
35mm f1.4
50m f1.4
85mm f1.4
135mm f2.0

Just sent them off to RPlens for their cinema conversion.

Need to add a nice 100mm macro and I'll have a nice complete set.

I find it very useful to have IS lens to compensate for vibration, partly because of the camera form factor. There are good canon lens one of them is the excellent 70-200 is 2.8

If you don't mind manual focus and no IS, I find some Leica lens to be unbeatable.

I also use a canon 85 L1.2. It's certainly a good lens for indoors, portrait and low light situations, but under bright lighting the fringing and CA seem to get out of control. If you don't mind the slight loss in luminosity then Leica 90mm 2.0 is surprisingly good.

Having said that, the 85 L1.2 is an excellent lens. It will strongly disappoint you if used in the wrong situation but it will certainly surprise you in the right conditions.
