I'm looking to building a new computer rig to handle GH4 4K video in Adobe CC. I've already have an 850w power supply. Does the rig below look ok to handle 4K? Thanks!

Having built my own I would stay away from AMD in favor of intel, double your ram, and look at some kind of decent RAID.

Asus Z87 pro motherboard and Intel i7 4770K processor, and a better cpu cooler like the Noctua NH-U12P SE2 since the system could be under considerable load.

4770K is a better bet. If you have the money, I would even suggest stepping up to a 4930k. Compared to camera equipment, it really doesn't cost that much more.

212 EVO is an outstanding cooler for the cost.

Never run into any situations where I've needed 32GB of RAM, myself - though I don't really use After Effects.

Don't be afraid of cheaping out on your motherboard - AS LONG as you stick to the best brands: Asus and Gigabyte. 4 (8 on X79) RAM slots are a must.

Consider getting a new power supply. It is the single most important part of your system, despite not making any tangible difference. If a bad, low quality power supply goes bust, your components will fry. Eggxpert PSU guide is a great source for this. Make sure it has all the right connectors for your components, too.

And yeah, hard drives hard drives hard drives. The absolute minimum, in my opinion, would be a boot drive, 2 1TB disks in RAID 0 and a 2TB disc running daily backups. Beyond that, you'll want archival, too. If you want to step things up, a boot drive along with a 4+ drive RAID 5 (you'll need either a PCI RAID controller or an external enclosure) is a fantastic option: fast and reliable.

Thanks for the replies. I've always been an AMD guy so that's why I'm looking at the AMD FX series. I have a AMD quad core 2.6 with 12gb of Ram and Geforce GTS 450 that runs CS6 perfect with MPE for Hacked GH2 footage. Hard drive wise, I have two Western Digital Black 640gb in a RAID 0 right now (daily backup to 1tb WD black drive) with a Kingston 120 SSD drive that I plan putting into the new system. I do have budget of around $900 so your saying go Intel or would this system be sufficient to handle 4K? Thanks!

I've used both AMDs and INTELs in boxes. It's not a big deal going either way, but the advantage of i5's and i7's is they run quieter and cooler. That's important if you want to bring the box on set as a DIT rendering machine, and important also if you like a more quiet, cooler environment. Also the coolness will generally provide more reliability. The only box that failed on me was my AMD Phenom II X6. Not sure if it was the MB or the Fan cooling system, but it was toast one warm summer day last year.

I built a system for Premiere last year, and couldn't have done it without the help of the Adobe Hardware Forum. You may want to run your final config past the guys there, some good people there.

Ok, after doing some research, may actually go with the I7 4770K. Does this config below look like it would be able to handle GH4 4K footage without any problem in PP with Mercury playback engine? Thanks for all your help!

I would spend about $30 more for the Corsair Carbide Series 400R and go with the Corsair HX750 power supply which is "gold" rated. It is about the same price as the Themaltake. IMO you never want to skimp on a case or power supply and they can be re-used in another build. Let us know how your build turns out.

I have tested emmanuel pampuri's source files on my i7 3930k OC'd to 4.2, with a superclocked gtx 670 4mb and 32mb of ram, and have been able to play back in premiere with CC. I would strongly recommend a gold rated power supply that leaves you room to grow, there is a power supply calculator out there somewhere. Corsairs are rock solid. If you can swing a larger case, you'll get better airflow.

Since I live in NJ along with Newegg I purchase most of my PC parts from vendors that don't charge 7% NJ sales tax like SuperBiiz, B&H, Tiger Direct etc. BTW is you don't want to build it yourself you could have SuperBiiz assemble it.
