New 35mm adapter

Ok then... now that we're re-focused on why we're here,

How's that faq coming? And did you find out guidlines for your logo contest yet?

Also, any thoughts on your adapter strapped to a hd100? just added one to the arsenal and can't wait. At your prices, I can buy an adapter for all my cams!

OK, good questions. Here's some thoughts and updates:

LOGO CONTEST: is a no go contest :( I've been informed that the machinist I'm using only employs text and line based silk screening. Very simple stuff. I might just forgo it entirely as it will add just another delay to the project and I'm getting itchy as it is. There is an option of having a laser etched surface on the end caps, but it adds a setup fee plus nearly doubles the cost of the end caps themselves, so I'm disinclined to go this route. Perhaps once these things are established and begin selling, then I'll revisit the idea for a second run...

HD100: well, let me get these last few parts in the mail and start cranking out Pro glass and I might be able to assemble some beta units to test and see. I've already got a couple of people asking if they can get a beta unit to test with their cams and I'm looking in to getting it done, if for no other reason than to satisfy my own understanding of how well the final kits will work with various cams.

For instance, the FX1 was used in Similo, right? If I'm correct, then I may not need to go the Go35HD route for that cam, the Pro should work just fine. However, I'm inclined to think that the HD100 will need a moving GG. These are the kinds of questions I will only get a satisfactory answer to if/when I test a beta unit on these cams.

FAQ: should be up tomorrow, along with the rest of the site for the most part.

Actualy Macregor used the ag-dvx100 on Similo because he sent it to the dvxuser contest and it was mandatory for him to use it. But He has a lot of footage shot with the FX1 with static version of the G35 that looks fantastic. If you can get your adapter to have similar results you'll be rich, my friend.

Do you have a link to his footage? I'd be interested in checking it out...

OK, that's what I thought. So the FX1 is probably the upper limit for the G35 or any device using a similar diffuse material for the GG.

As for relative wealth, I hope you're right :) I don't need to be rich, just need to pay for a dv feature or three...

Most of it, yes.

It will be tweaked from here until product release, of course. But it will be up and I will soon be parking footage there.

I'd honestly appreciate it if you two take discussion of Dan's work to another thread. Thanks.

To have the King and the future Prince Consort posting it's a value-add here to us, to Jarred's website community and you have luck my fellow americans because you are there, if not you will pay VAT for sure. High(er) VAT. In the dentist chair or not.

BTW, King Dan, is there any opportunity to have your excellent device to work with the Sony's 1/2" chip XDCAM-HD series?

after 2/3 days without any new or post, the thread is alive again!
Me too. It makes sense and it's fair! You are a business man.

And about your product...

For the HD? Let me do some work over the course of the next two weeks and I'll have a better idea of what's realistic.
...any update to 1/2" chip Sony's XDCAM-HD series concerning your Go35HD?

I like your cams approach without thinking that all are the same. They aren't and you know it. I can tell you that I've been in touch with Jonathan and he has been saying to me that's difficult to him focus no more than 1/3" chip small camcorders. So do you have other cam markets to work it, if you are interested, of course. And as we all know any Sony -- specially at this level, it is a case of sales success...

Jim, any luck on finding an engineer to aid in the vibrating/osilating GG yet?

You and Emanuel are asking sort of the same question -- the Go35HD will work with any HD capable cam I can get my hands on. It's not like I'll ever get to test it with a CineAlta, but then who here has regular access to one of those, or would even use a shallow DOF adapter if they had...

So in answer to both of you, the Go535HD is "in the works" and I have two prospective engineering contacts. I may just license a piece of tech from someone who has a proven motion/power setup, provided it makes economic sense for me to do so. I don't want to take a huge hit per unit, and have to pass that on to my customers. So for now it's a "wait-n-see" kind of thing -- the people I'm talking to need to get back to me with what they're comfortable charging, and the proper paperwork and legal hoops will have to be put together. It will take some time, but then I have a little breathing room given the projected order to ship time of the other components.

And on that note, I've looked over the most recent rev of the Nikon F mount for the Go35 and it's approved. I should be ordering Monday or Tuesday, so the clock will start ticking then -- "30 days plus one week."

Thanks Jim, I can't imagine how hard it is to be working on three versions all at the same time.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks, man -- I'm tryin' :)

I've just turned what I hope is a pretty major corner on manufacturing the Pro glass. It's going to take me another week of testing to be sure.

I'll let you all know how it works -- hopefully by just posting footage.

i would like to see footage of it as well. is there a working link somewhere to a video? as well as pictures for it?

OK guys. Some more research in "the lab" here has led me to one conclusion about the Pro glass, and it is a somewhat expensive conclusion. Completely within reach, financially, provided I solicit some money from outside investors. I will be doing that this week.

I'll keep you all up to date on that. It does, however, mean that I will not be posting any Pro footage for at least two-three weeks while I work out consistency issues. The glass is so, ah, tempermental and precise that it is difficult to create in a repeatable manner with the tools I have available. This is where the investors will come in -- I will be purchasing a tool that will allow me to repeat the Pro glass consistently and within very high tolerances.

This puts the Pro glass within the timeframe of the other parts in the manufacturing process, so I'm happy about that and confident I can release it and the Standard at the same time, or very close to one another.

I'll let you know more about the HD as it develops.

Oh, and my hat's off to DJLewis for investing his time and energies completely on a whim to create what is now http://go-35.com! Many thanks to him!
