New 35mm adapter

Cavision's system at $160 would be good. Dennis Wood's $120 rods would likely work, too. I might dev my own once the adapters are finished.

Awesome footage Jim. Any idea when the HD model will be available? Would it be ready by June? I'd like to use it for some summer projects, the 48 hr film project being one of them. If not, I might settle on the pro considering how good it looks. I would love to see how the pro hold up on a HD camera though.

Also, since I'm shooting on a Sony HC1 which has a 37mm lens, would I still need the same power achromat or can I get away with the asian macro? thanks!

Hi Min -- thanks for the compliment, and thanks for stopping by to say hello.

I wanted the HD to be ready by mid May. I met up with the engineer yesterday and it is basically a weekend only project for him since he operates an engineering division weekdays, so progress is slower than either of us expected. He hopes to have a working prototype within two weeks, and then provided it works properly it will take a minimum three weeks lead time to have the parts mass produced. Early June sounds about right, but if you've got projects slated for then, I would advise using the Pro until I can get the HD to you.

I will have the Pro finalized with new achromats by the end of this coming week, and will be ready to ship some units out by the end of the following week.

As far as the 37mm form factor, I'm unsure. I'll get a beta unit out to you ASAP and let you tell me. You'll need at a minimum a step up ring to 52mm for the beta. Final production unit will need a step up ring to 58mm.

PaPa -- IndiFocus! $299 can't be beat! I want to get ahold of one to test it out...

I'm just recommending what I've found to be the cheapest option. Odds are against me ever dev'ing a follow focus, so... I'm just looking around at what's most affordable and seems reasonably well made.

Killer footage Jim! But you already knew that..... Achromats next week? Have you already tested them? How are they?

I figured out a handful of things today -- the biggest being how to judge an achromat based on its FL. So, with the info I figured out, I put together another Go35Pro beta which should solve the edge smear issues for the DVX. Monday I'll know for sure, and by the week's end I'll have the parts shipped, ready to assemble and ship out the following week.

oh indie focus, i thought that was the same thign as the ifocus adapter. meaning that it comes with a rail system. was confused for a second.

Try bringing the MF up, I had the same problem with the ifocus. Set the zoom first, then the foucs. Good luck

Thanks for the thought. I'll check that out.

I'm having custom achromats replace the macro I've been using, which will solve the edge smear likely. I'm also probably combining this with an additional optical element just to be sure it will work with the DVX and any other large lens setup.

Hiya.

New updates, briefly:

I'm looking to stamp out every last bit of chroma issues and people who've pointed out issues with the most recent "Union Square" clip have me grinding my teeth about the issue. I've come to rethink an optical element and have placed some on order to see if I can eliminate it once and for all.

The bad news is this delays the release of the product some time, as the lead time for custom optics is about 5 to 6 weeks.

The good news is that it will give me an opportunity to hammer this out and get al my other ducks in a row. The new optics arrive sometime next week and I will test them and get that process rolling ASAP.

Meanwhile, the Nikon F mounts are here (along with two big boxes with the other components for the first 100 adapters) but not annodized! I have no idea how this got past the machinist, so they're off to a local annodizing place tomorrow. That part of the adapter should be finished within days.

Website is 90% complete. Unfortunately all it is waiting for right now is pics of the final adapter, which of course won't happen until the new optics are in place.

So that's the story, in a nutshell:

yes me too.
educational discount... 10%...50%???
hahaha just kiddin'!

anyways, i hope some of those are the standard, and im hoping the standard can come out before the pro if they aren't as difficult to assemble. because I WANT ONE!

That's a hell of a lot of work (and financial risk) you're putting into the project, Jim. All the best with the site. I'd have loved to help you out on that end. I'm quite sure your huge effort will be rewarded once your product starts shipping.

Best,

Tony

im excited for him tho... he'll be making bank (hopefully)... and we'll be making movies!

I hope so. I'm sure he's pulling some looong hours finalizing his product. I know how much work it takes. Stay the course, Jim :-)
