New 35mm adapter

yeah...that's all i have to say...and yeah, i'm bought on this stuff and screw all the HD versions for me, and the other chaps out there. I'm waiting for Jim's pro version and that's that. so should everyone else.

I don't know Car; we still haven't seen Jim's HD model yet.... Though I'll agree, for $500 and some change, his pro version is amazing (if you shoot SD)!

I hope you'll be able to keep up with orders Jim!

(imaging in a small sweat shop under his broklyn aparment)

Which brings up a question (or two): Jim, what is the expected turn around time on orders, once you get you operation fully running? Will these be made to order, or kept in stock? And are you building the units, or are you having them built once you finish your design?

Turn-around time should be pretty short. I intend to keep 25-50 units on hand at all times. Basically, the difference between the SD and Pro will be a matter of changing one or two components. The GG on both will have to be made here, since I'm the only one who knows the secret :) But I've got 100 "shells," f-mounts and step rings coming to me at once.

To give you a more firm expectation -- after the final release date, once the new site and order system go live, expect 3-4 days turnaround from when you order.

On that note, there will be a few weeks delay with the DVX as it will require a custom achromat. I got a quote from a company yesterday that is within my financial means, but is a 5 week turnaround time. So, given the likely arrival of the parts from the machinist (April 17th-20th), it will be three additional weeks until the final DVX adapters ship out. I'm on the lookout for a better (faster) place for the achromats, but... them's the breaks for now. Smaller barrelled cams, like the 58mm GL1/GL2, the Sony's, I expect to work fine with the adapter as-is.

I have two very cool updates planned, possibly three, over the next few days. You're going to love them :)

Is there a picture of the adapter? Also why is there not much info on the wed site you have up right now?

If you click through the thread you'll find...

... which I think is will be all black when said and done. And if yuo read the post before yours, there's supposed to be a major site over haul soon.

hey jim,
just curious as to what you'll have ready for the dvx by the end of may. I'm leaving for an internship in Germany first of june and would love to take a go35SD with me. If for any reason you dont have it done by then--how much would you think shipping would run to fedex it there?

danke schoen!

End of May shouldn't be a problem, but you know how these things go...

I'd have to look into that. I'm not sure if you'd have to pay import tariffs once it arrives, which is something I'm contending with for some of the components I've had machined overseas. In truth, the final answer may be revealed when you're over there and not realistically any sooner.

Worse case scenario, the only thing potentially "in question" by May will be the custom acrhomat for the DVX. I could just sell you a unit with everything else, then ship you the achromat when it arrives.

And, bitte shon.

For everyone: working on completing the FAQ (finally). Sorry for the delay. Will have it posted tomorrow.

As long as you let the box look like a "birthday present" there´s a good chance it won´t be checked by the german custom service...
So no company logo on the outside and "hand-made" wrapping and handwritten address should do the job...
If they check you´ll at least have to pay 16% german VAT, since I have always been lucky so far, I´m not sure what else they might charge you...
Maybe Jim could add a love letter, explaining the use of your new vibrator muhahaha...

:D

LOGO CONTEST:

OK, if anyone still has intentions of submitting a logo for the contest, give me a heads-up today via email: info at go - 35 dot com. The deadline is technically next Friday, but I haven't had a new submission in almost a week, and have a pretty good idea of the finalists right now. I just don't want to innadvertantly snub someone who is working hard on something but for whatever reason hasn't gotten it submitted yet.

New updates later today! I'm going to break off a footage specific thread since people seem to be losing the images/vids in all these pages here. I think this is the second largest thread on this forum, right behind "look I'm done."

OK. Started a new footage specific thread. It only makes sense as I think the clips and images are getting lost in the shuffle for newcomers. Added to that thread is the footage the above images were taken from -- I think shooting with a macro lens goes far to show off the Pro's clarity.

I had two other updates planned but had to pull out of them at the last moment: one was the logo contest, which I thought was decided, but a last minute entry has potentially changed the final standings. The other was the FAQ which with is nearing completion, or nearing some reasonably acceptable version of completion, but not quite there yet. It's like a hydra -- the more I type the more I have to type... but I'll have it up in some form tomorrow before heading into work.

edit: Yeesh, I'm eating Crow right now -- I couldn't keep up with the day before work so it will be delayed again :(

As an aside -- someone here PM'd me recently about two questions: 1) could I get an adapter in their hands this next week, and 2) is 2000 grit GG what I'm using in a version of my adapter.

Unfortunately my PM box is getting on the full side again and in the shuffle of purging a bunch of messages, I lost the message and the nickname of its owner so I have no way of getting back to them directly.

In short, the answers are both no. Whoever sent me the message, email info at go - 35 dot com and we can take it off the board. My apologies for losing it in the first place.

Fabrication of the Pro glass elements is coming to a close and should be shipped to me this week, so I should be able to sell in two weeks time. Price range is an even $125.

In other news: my tubing/mount machinist has confirmed a ship time of this week, which is later than initially predicted, so it pushes back release to closer to two weeks from now, or first of May.

LOGO CONTEST closes today. Expect the final to be included in the FAQ and the new footage that will be going up over this weekend. Thanks to all who participated -- it's been great to see the creativity pour in!

Cool! Pretty sure I didn't win, but it was fun working on it. :)

EDIT: Can I post the different logos I came up with? Can we see all of the entries?

Sorry guys, I just got confirmation from Lafferty
that I won the logo contest.
Try better next time.
Just kidding, I didn't even enter, but I'm going to enter
$125.00 in Jim's bank account for that glass. But I want to wait,
until you get some more footage from the Dvx and which achromat
he uses before I make a "final" decision.

Wow, I'm really late to this thread. Good god, this footage looks as solid as the cinemek G35. More important, it seems like this one is really going to be available for purchase by this summer!

Count me in! Is there a mailing list or pre-order list I can join?

Technical question here:

It's been said that the Cinemek increased latitude in the images. In your tests have you found this to be the same of your adapter?

Cheers-

Yes. Falloff from the highlights is a more forgiving, organic look. Once I get some of these in the hands of competent DPs you'll be seeing more of that sort of thing in action...

yea you guys, this thing is TOTALLY organic image.

Its gorgeous. its in my list of top 3 Adpaters.

which goes,
1 SGpro
2 Go35
3 Redrock

THe way the go35 screen handles highlights is increadible. Very similar to the SGpro, which i like best, but go35 is a VERY close second, and its a still adapter to boot! If you want a Small adapter, with few compomises in image go with Go35.

Also, i think its good to point out, when shooting with SHallowDOF, over exposure in the Bokeh is not handled to well in standard Cinegamma. you need a little bit of knee protection to smooth the trandsition from proper => over exposure. I reccomend, after having the luck to be abal to use 2 different 35mm adpaters in a week, to shoot with Cinegamma D, which gives you the knee protection. When you see what overexposure does to the Bokeh you will under stand.
