New 35mm adapter

15mm is between 1/2" and 3/4". But if your making a rod system from scratch, then I don't think it would matter what size tubing you use, just as long as your happy with the end result and it does the job. Thats my 2cents at least.

Wouldn't it be kinda nice if you were able to mount - say a matte box - onto the rails? I don't think it would be wise to choose any other dimensions for this. Those were my 2 cents ;-)

Yes. Both. The basic shipping package for both will include a magnet, a single achromat, the tube, a pair of metal end caps, and a Nikon F-mount by default. You can opt for an FD mount instead, or in addition to. The Go35HD (the Pro is "discontinued") will include a pack of four batteries and a charger. Additional accessories will be a 72-58mm step-down, and if needed an additional achromat.

I noticed earlier you guys were talking about lenses for the adapters... I have what it appears to be possibly an "automatic exposure" lens (fd mount). When I acquired it I was under the asumption it was a manual lens.

Any rate, the aperture will not move manually as it stands (like it does on my other lenses), so I was wondering if this lens could be used in any way? Or I might as well get rid of it and find a true manual exposure one? (the focus is manual, and it does allow me to turn the aperture ring, it just doesn't move the aperture blades when I do it.)

Please be gentle in responses as I don't know a whole lot about the technologies of these things.

It's a Canon MF 50 f1.4 FD

thanks,

jg

I have a few updates but I'm holding off until they're in the bag. Machinist says parts are on schedule and will be able to confirm shortly -- may include the prototype Canon FD mount with the first run of adapters. I'll fill you in on the other details when the time comes, but suffice to say I'm excited by what's in store :)

James, the iris won't adjust unless you have the lens properly mounted on something that will activate/slide the switch in back. Then the you should see the iris adjusting.

Thanks guys!

an interesting note, when I put the rear lens cap on the lens, the aperature closes slightly, also, with the rear cap in place I'm able to rotate the aperture ring and it will react to the settings for f8 thru 22 (just not from 1.4 thru 8, all I want is the 1.4, hahaha)

is there a better area I should be posting this question? or is this thread okay?
(didn't want to derail it)

thanks again,

jg

just read through the thread! Looks great so far, I will be picking up one of the standard Go35, so you have at least one sale toward financing the HD, which I will probably also get:)

Good luck with the rest of the project!!

by the way, at least in my neck of the woods, pawn shops are great places to pick up older lenses, hands on, you can check them out and they usually sell really cheap .

bklyndv, I can't wait. lol I really can't its like crack looking at these adapters. I go on to see these adapters daily hoping for new footage ahhhhhhh. If I pass by a computer I have to log onto dvxuser and check out all this stuff. jeeeez. I hate/love DVXuser.com

slinks, my sentiments exactly...

jim, can you remind me if your go35hd (i thought you had dropped the "hd" in favor of "pro") is going to have an integral flip in it?

thx:2vrolijk_08:

I think I'm going with two naming conventions: Go35SD, Go35HD -- both make it pretty obvious which res they're targeted at. The HD, of course, will be backwards compatible.

The short list of differences between both models: SD will be static, featuring a custom diffuser (it is what you're seeing in the demo footage here in the thread), and cost $209 + extras (step ring, possible extra macro) + shipping. Footage will have some light loss, and minimal grain.

The HD will feature a moving diffuse screen, and run on rechargable NiMH cells. It will ship with extra batteries and a method for charging them. The cost will be around $700 + shipping. Footage will have very little light loss, and under most conditions no grain.

A separate flip unit is planned but will not ship with either adapters initially.

As for the whens of it all, the SD will be available likely by the second week of April. I've just gotten a confirmation from the manufacturer that we're looking at 10-15 days before the parts are completed and ship to me -- so a firm date would be March 38th + 1 week if you're keeping records :)

For the HD, a little more time will be needed. The hope is to have a working prototype in 3-4 weeks, show off the demo footage, then take a beta order of 5-10 units. Then begin selling them shortly thereafter -- sometime mid-May would be my guess.

The HD will be a little more involved, so it will take some time from payment to shipping. The SD will ship out a day or two from the time you place your order.

There's a HUGE overhaul of the website on the horizon which will make the order process streamlined, easy, elegant. I'll keep you all posted.

On the website note -- some of you had mentioned a LOGO CONTEST. Well, here it is:

First place gets you your choice of 50% off a Go35HD, or a free Go35SD.

Second and Third place prizes are 20% off your order, either way.

The logo should be above all simple. Think of reducing whatever you've got in mind to something that can be easily stencilled, so a paired down bit of iconography would be nice.

I like the style of minimal, graphic imagery made up of negative space/shading, ala the old KMFDM covers, which in a way works in concert with the Go35 tagline: the revolution, without the spin. But of course, the "feel" doesn't need to be so agressive.

If you can dimensionalize some combination of "Go35" to give an abstracted appearance of depth, so much the better. Kudos to you if you can do that and make the letters in some way echo the shape of the adapter itself.

I am not a big fan of "handholding" in any way, so if it takes a little bit of work for the eye to "get" the logo, I'm tickled by that kind of thing.
