New $350.00 Single Slot P2 Reader?!?! Finally!

Yes Barry, I've used the PCD20 (5 Slot Reader - my choice for now). FW800 is still too slow.. I've owned the duel adapter. I've even tried your suggestion to go-out-and-buy-a-mini-netbook-as-a-downloading-station, usb is still too slow.. The PCD35 is a beast to travel with, and will definately incurr the extra "baggage" fees and getting PCI Express up and running isn't exactly a picnic-at-the-beach. I'm not a computer wiz.. the PCD35 is hard item to tote out in the field and expense to rent. I know about the Sonnet Qio too, it's nice, but it's a grand to buy and I don't know where you would rent it.. I'm talking about a pragmatic and practical reader made by the Panasonic... A simple reader that you just plug in with eSATA, like this. And frankly I'd love USB 3.0, but it is not available yet...

question: so you guys are saying the days of adapters for pc,macs, laptops may be gone ?

USB 3.0 *is* available, there are laptops shipping right now that have it. It's rare, obviously, but it's out.

eSata -- probably just as rare. Laptop I'm looking at (Lenovo W510) has both, but it's not all that common. You can, of course, add eSata through an ExpressCard adapter.

It's another alternative.

Snow Leopard pretty much killed off the Duel Adapter for the one model of MBP that even still offers an ExpressCard slot, so if you want to use an Apple computer this USB adapter seems like the way forward.

On Windows, the PCMCIA slot still exists, and cheap $25-$50 PCMCIA->ExpressCard adapters still exist and are widely supported.

i'm still weighing my options on a new computer either mac or pc. things seem to be changing all the time.

Barry, it's makers of Duel Adapter that killed off the Duel Adapter, they didn't feel it was profitable to pay an software guy to write a firmware upgrade. This is what a Panasonic tech told me. You can't expect Apple to not upgrade their OS.

You still run into the problem of the USB bottlenecking the speed of transfer.. at least with the Duel Adapter you could get up to FW800.

I bought an HP 2140 netbook with an express 54 slot and one of those Rosewill adapters and big surprise, it didn't work. worst $400 I've ever spent and I don't even use the netbook for internet browsing because I download a virus, should have sunk that money into Apple stock..

When I looked into ordering one recently, it was a 30 day ETA.

Wanted to review it, because I've seen no reviews, but 30 days out?
