NEW FEATURES & IMPROVEMENTS:

1.) Peaking, Zebra function improvement
• Peaking and Zebra function will become functional during Picture Cache Recording
2.) Monitor LUT limitations of Ver.2.00 are improved
• M-LUT remains“off” after S&Q
• M-LUT is not applicable to SDI-2 while 4K recording.
3.) Operation stability improvement

Information for future update:
Software update for "Center scan mode" which provides 2x crop recording is planned in this year.Sony will reflect customer's voice to our products continuously.
"

EDIT:
fs7_21.jpg
- still either waveform or mlut :/
- shame I didn't measured that, but might be slightly faster to turn on
- shutter in speed mode stays the same when switching in same frame rate (be it uhd, 4k, fhd) but when switching to 60 or 30p it goes 1/60 or 1/30.

Throw questions at me so I will check it out if it's fixed.

Here's link to Sony's forum and corresponding thread

Each and every time we have to flood their forum with requests. Please take 5 minutes and write it there. Together we have a bigger impact and we can actually influence firmware changes.

For me biggest issues at this moment are:
- shutter speed bug
- no LUT and waveform at the same time

Still no proper timelapse recording mode, even for 1080p?

(Yes, I know S&Q lets me do 1fps - but I can't choose anything slower...)

This is x.1 so it's about fixing bugs etc. I am quite happy that they've release it before summer :) This one is quite unexpected (no word about it before). New features probably in 3.0.

Does it fix the inability to have an MLUT when outputting QFHD to the HDMI for external recorder?

Odd observation: the format of that SHDC card must be real difficult for Windows to deal with.. it took longer to copy the file to the card than it took to download it from the internet.

Firmware is in.. appears to have succeeded.
Can't tell any difference.. still get "cannot proceed" when I try to turn on waveform. Still can't use a MLUT when HDMI is set to one of the 2160P modes. I'm going to be shooting S-Log 3 tomorrow night and would really like to see what I'm really getting, but it doesn't look like that will be possible.

Yep :(
Unfortunately nothing extra :( My findings so far are that it's truly only what they've listed. But maybe others will find something!

On the FW update page, they also mention:

This is a bug fix. Much needed and very welcome. Time-lapse and centre-scan are in V3 due to be released in October.

Guys, please everyone go to sony forum and post your opinions about it!! That's the best place to do it- they'll checking that the most.
They HAVE TO release another firmware asap!!

So this firmware update is really about fixing anomalies. No solving functionality or introducing new features like 2k center punch.

I am still amazed that I can't get waveforms while using LUTs on the supplied monitor but somehow get just that via HDMI....that has to be a bug....
it would also be nice to have NR in cine-I....

Yep, extremely annoying. If they cannot make waveforms monitoring LUTed image, just do waveforms for underlaying S-log!!
Anyway I'm happy with S&Q LUT bug fix. At least one less thing to think about. If only shutter speed was fixed that would be overall good update.

Anyone notice the Thumbnail feature no longer works after the update? I tried to view a clip that I recorded just now, and the screen goes black after pressing Thumbnail. I can press the menu button and get the menu to appear maybe once or twice, but after that, the camera is completely unresponsive. I was using the Thumbnail feature about an hour before the update, so it was working then.

Also, after formatting an XQD card, the clip name is blinking in the viewfinder. I don't remember that being the case. After recording one clip, the blinking stops and the next clip name is displayed without blinking.

It exists on the F5/F55 so I gotta think this is on Sony's radar.

In general I've seen some really weird behaviour with setting changes going in and out of S&Q mode on the F5/F55, and also the waveforms only working with certain combination settings on the camera and I have to 100% agree it's absurd that FS7 owners can't have wfm whenever they like regardless of setting combinations.

I wrote a huge rant on the Sony forums, the firmware needs a complete overhaul built right from the ground straight up but that will never happen. If Sony put out a DEV KIT for the firmware I would be the first to write my own version software for these cameras. I know exactly how it should work, as do many others here.

Squash one bug, ten more pop up!

I'll hold off installing this one for now... Sony needs to figure things out. Also, I can't help but chuckle when I hear companies like Sony say they are "listening" to their customers. They are going to do what they want, when they want, and we're going to be happy for any little crumbs we get. I'm not putting any bets on them fully fixing the FS7's buggy Waveform. They are probably putting time into a new interface that will go into the replacements for the F5/F55. People are buying up the FS7 regardless of buggy firmware, it's not stopping sales.
