Panasonic soon releases the new 15mm prime lens which I really want to buy if the video AF performance on the AF100 is as good as with the 12-35mm (would love to have that speed and accuracy with 1.7 aperture). But any ideas what happens when new lenses are released from now on? It seems to me that Panasonic has more or less stopped supporting the AF100. I am sure it will in some degree be compatible since it is a MFT lens, but unsure if it will work as good as it should with no new firmware for it on the AF100. But I might be wrong here.... Is the lens firmware identical for all the cameras so it should work well across all cameras new and old?

It will work just fine. Autofocus is the only area in question, where it basically varies by body because the lens relies on autofocus sensor feedback.
For perspective, I have a very old, very unsupported Olympus EPL1. It works with every m43 lens I've ever tried up to the 12-35 and 35-100. I've even seen photos a fellow posted using it with the Leica 42.5 ($100 camera body on a $1600 lens... why not?). The AF will use them just fine.

Why don't they just make a 10mm wide with a 1.7 iris? They already have a 17mm so why this?
Thanks for the answer mcbob. Sounds like it might work fine. Hope that one of the forum members who get to try this lens first with the AF100 reports back how well it performs in regards to AF. Would also love to see someone doing a comparison with the Olympus 17mm 1.8 (which is cheaper, and is also supposed to do continous AF according to Panasonics overview) on this exact camera. The more expensive lens will of course give you a aperture ring as well, just like the shoulder cameras I'm used to, which would be really nice. Would be even nicer if this ring actually made you able to do a smooth transition in exposure unlike the other lenses.

Will the aperture ring work on the AF100? Will have to wait and see. I read it does not function on Olympus bodies.
