I also dont see productions skipping over the Arri Alexa name, to go to PS. I dont think producers would want to rent a PS camera for the same or more money than an Alexa. Specially after the adaptation of a ton of tv shows with the Alexa, and ASC members giving it their highest marks. In that range of product you are really wanting industry standard. PS is not. As you said they are nitch. From production stand point I see no reason to go with a PS product priced at the same or higher than Alexa. You work with standards and thats either Sony or Arri at this point. Its either 9000PL/F35 or Alexa for productions wanting a camera in that price range.

Rental companies wont buy them because well... why would you stock your shelf with a nitch product at the same or higher price as stocking your shelf to rent out a product you KNOW is going to be rented out constantly, and for the same or lower price?

I'm not trying to argue, no one knows the price, but I just hope that someone from PS is reading this because its a marketing disaster if they price it wrong.

Lets wait and see Giuseppe. But for now, and for the next few years- the f3 you hold in your hands is going to be a great value in the professional market- going to be really damn hard to beat.

BTW, there are "inexpensive" big chip highspeed cameras from a lot of companies, but they are aimed at industrial/science/military applications (one of which im using in the next few weeks- same MSRP as f3). Its the cross over to cinema that makes it expensive.

Who would want it for that much $$? It would need to have 15stops range and have some real nice features, nicer than an Alexa and somehow I doubt that will happen. Arri has really won the camera wars, again, and I dont see anything other than the reported F65 topping it soon... with the F3 being the best bang for your money I think.

Never heard of the Red Epic?

Anyways, this new PS Cam looks like a nice paperweight or a high-tech looking bookend for my ASC Mag collection.

No Shorty, I never heard of that one. Is that the one that they can't get built?? Oh yes, it is, you're sorry.

Or you can pay, what, $55,000 for a "special" one that takes months to get? But back to your question, wait, what was it directed at me for? I pointed out that top DP's like the Alexa because it matches film better and is more reliable, and has better professional support, oh and you can watch the clips you shot via playback, it's this new thing that even my HVX did that the Epic DOES NOT do. The next big deal is now the F65 for professional shoots, the Epic was cool for a second, at least the few they managed to get built. The F3 will win out for a good while, it is a measly $14k, can do Slog if you want and is pretty darn different than $55k and impresses people by the boat load when compared.

BTW, the P+S is a 1080p camera with a reported 11 stops range. I don't see the purpose honestly, other than doing high-frame rates.

I wonder if its a SI2K... since they've worked together in the past... just guessing...

We used the SI2K's in planes because you can pull a mini our of the camera body and it was easier mounting in the planes...

Haven't checked out what they've been up too in a while...

I'm not sure what you're talking about, this is a new camera called the x35, not the si2k.

And I am interested in the x35, but only at a specific price range. Its form factor is exactly what I like. As I've said before, this is exactly like the F3 for its specs, the only thing different is the high speed option.
So again, no idea how they are expecting to price this thing. Everything is still hush hush on the camera, I had to register just to view the damn website. And all the website does is show you a fancier layout of the white page that has already been out... So I dont get why they are trying to pull a RED.

I tried getting info from them but no one has answered me back. (thats not a good way to woo a potential costumer) I was able to meet and talk with Sony way before the F3 was out, PS can't even return an email or phone call... might not be a good sign in terms of costumer care. If I'm out on the field and something goes wrong I wanna be able to call someone at the company for help.

They all have the same upgrades as the F3 as well. Wifi (upgrade) 4:4:4 (upgrade) the one thing that I saw as a 2K option for an upgrade, now thats nice, but... would you really pay to get that tiny bit more res?

I am very skeptical about the camera and their ability to make it worth any price they want to tag on. The picture really has to be something else, to make it worth paying more than $30k for it.

eh I guess we'll see

Lots of talk about price here, and many comparisons to other cameras. All very interesting but missing the point somewhat. This camera shoots 1-450fps. There is no other camera that qualifies as well as this to be BOTH you sync sound and you motion effects camera. I should know since I've shot on the prototype. It's not perfect, it doesn't have the dynamic range of the Alexa or the "K's" of the Epic or the price of an F3 - but it does fit a gap in the toolset. It's not a camera you go out and buy unless you're a rental house, but if you're shooting something where you know you will be using a lot of high speed (and I mean over 150 fps) this could be the only camera you would need for that shoot. Horses for courses, as it were.

Please check out some real world experience on the PS-CAM X35 here:http://www.joelbergvall.com/Home/Bl...Nowhere_to_hide_at_450_frames_per_second.html

And no, I won't buy one - but I will rent it for the right project!

At first wasn't it introduced as a NEW super 35 digital camera without providing a lot of specs around it? In fact I remember having to register just to view some basic info on it. So when the camera first came up here it was without any price, but many of us guessed it would be over 20k. This is an F3 section so probably most here have owner/op point of view, like you said leave that 450fps and price tag to the rental houses. The X35 is definitely not for me, and likely anyone else looking to own a good S35 cam.

I don't think anyone is missing the point.

The Phantom Flex can shoot "regular" speeds as well, shoot more than three times faster framerate, can record Uncompressed RAW or output 4:4:4 (or 4:2:2 like the X35), and doesn't cost much more money. Strip away some of the features (such as the CineMag option) and it is the same price or less, while still outperforming.
