NEW 1024x768 HD Monitor

Turning into a mini "Madoff" episode as in made off with your cash. This whole pity the Gepetto DIY guy cut him some slack apologies don't hold after your check has been cashed and no sign of a product. I hold that kind of behavior tantamount to fraud (if nothing shows up in a reasonable time).

There, I said it.

The ability for a small scale assembler (Luis) to make products cost effectively depends on the huge scale of the Chinese manufacturing industry. If Luis had to fabricate all of this stuff himself, rather than using commercial off the shelf (COTS) components, the cost would be astronomical. Easily a half million bucks in development and would require purchasing thousands of units, before even selling a single one to a customer. In other words, the product never would have happened. However, it appears this Carrion monitor was built using a COTS manufacturing concept. Where, the parts to build the monitor were already being made for something else, then simply re-purposed for the Carrion.

The only problem with this strategy, is that you are completely reliant on your third party suppliers to keep the supply of parts available. In a good economy, where everyone is making money, they keep cranking parts out, no problem. However, in the last six to eight months, there has been a tremendous reduction in the demand for Chinese exports, including electronics. In fact, 23 million manufacturing workers have become unemployed, due to greatly reduced demand for Chinese exports, in the last six months. Even though Carrion was still very interested in buying the parts, there really needed to be a hundred companies like Carrion buying the parts, or else they could not afford to keep making them. The only way to avoid a catastrophe like this, is to buy WAY more parts than you need, then store them on a shelf until you need them. This increases your costs, which you build in to the price of your product. That's why Nebtek's and Panasonic's cost more.

What does this mean for you? In all likelihood, the manufacturer's that made the parts for Carrion shut down the lines and there are no parts are available to finish your monitors. The supply chain has basically dried up for this product. There are no parts available for repairs, or for finishing the monitors. And, this guy is probably not yet willing to admit this, or is in denial, since there is still some hope of finding the parts he needs to finish this on a good note. That's my take on this.

Does this seem plausible?

PS - Certain transistors needed to repair electronics equipment from as recently as the 1990's are no longer being made, and are unavailable, due to the ROHS (lead free) initiative. For instance, Lightmaker electronic ballasts for HMI lights. If an IGBT transistor goes bad in one of the ballasts, since the part is obsolete, are none are available for sale anywhere, the ballast cannot be repaired. So, Carrion is not alone in this. Really.

I'm sure Luis started this project mostly for the fun of it, in a community/DIY spirit. People say he's got a well paid day job so it's not for the money (maybe that's the problem, like orangesaybananas said above). It can't be so much fun now, when so many people are disappointed and angry. Myself, I wouldn't sleep at night out of stress. If I was Luis I would immediately stop accepting new orders and try to discontinue the Carrion project in a graceful way.

Luis is a Independent Film maker and that is what he does. All this started as a DIY project for himself (alternative to purchasing the high end monitors). People saw the monitor and requested orders and so on.... Luis probably saw this as a potential source of extra income to fund is own independent film making which im sure many of you can understand.

I'm not taking away the seriouness of the situaction here.. Taking people's money and not delivering the goods is not a good thing. I hope you all get your money back or find a feesable way to reslove the undelivered goods.

Let me get this straight. He makes a monitor, with an HD-SDI input, and above average resolution, but average brightness, and below average construction. He sells the product for One Thousand Eight Hundred Twenty Dollars. And, that's an alternative to the "high end?" Even with compromises and tradeoffs, an 8.4" LCD for $1820.00 sounds very high end to me.... And, so, there's really no excuse for a business to accept 1800+ bucks from a customer, then disappear for five + months. No excuse at all!!! :(

Now are three months I expect an answer.
at this point just want the money back.
In December I made the payment and I had problems with paypal. The same day I sent an email asking for clarification. This means that he reads the mails.
I begin to think badly.
I hope that he realizes what he is doing ....

What does being an indie have to do with the price of fish? He has a website, set up to take orders, charges app 2 grand for a monitor - in short he's in the retail business now. I'm a DP but I have a separate rental business. Never do I use that as an excuse for flaking on a rental client. Perhaps he should put a disclaimer "Due to other interests as an indy, you may or may not get your monitor as expected. And any notions of a refund are at my discretion. To order press continue.....".

The specs and picture quality are comparable to high end monitors asking twice as much (Panny 900 comes to mind). It does lack several key features, design element and customer service of the other monitors. You get what you pay for or in this case, maybe not.

Well, I hope mine never fails. It sounds like you're pretty much SOL if it does, unless you can find someone else to work on it (potential side-business for someone, eh?)

Luis, if you are alive sends a sign.
I never had an answer, and since I already paid for the monitor, I think I do not ask much

Dude I hate to state the obvious, but I think you can kiss that cash goodbye... It seems Luis has scammed you and done a runner. Fraudster.

Did you pay by PayPal? Can you see if they will cover you?

Cheers

The payment was regularly. Pay pal obviously does not guarantee that the recipient does not respond.
I do not want to think evil, but I'm starting to say goodbye to that money ..
I hope that there no other helmets

Folks

Just FYI - Luis is aware of this thread and when he returns from his travel he plans to handle your inquiries. While I am not affiliated with Luis in any professional way, I've found him to be completely honest, and I think Luis will make good.

This has happened before with Luis, but at the end if I recall he always delivered - or returned the money if the customer had to buy sth different meanwhile.
It seems to be a great monitor, but you just cannot handle a professional business like that, neither Luis, nor the customer waiting for a monitor for his production.
But again, I´m pretty sure your money ain´t lost...

Pretty harsh statement, on what is your judgement based?
One post of a not (yet) delivered item?

Yep I agree I was a bit harsh, for that I blame the late night and Im sorry... But my judgement was determined by reading the entire thread and there was more than 1 person complaining about waiting months for their fully paid for monitor... I can understand that the monitor may be a fantastic product and I appreciate that Luis may be busy with other affairs or world holidays, but accepting payment for something then not delivering for MONTHS with little or no correspondence with the paying customers is, in my opinion, a pretty shi tty thing to do to someone that has trusted you by sending you their hard earned cash.

Carrion Audio Problems

Carrion Audio Problems

Hey, have any of you Carrion users had issues with audio interference coming from a connection to the carrion monitor? I have noticed it as of late, and it seems to be getting worse. I cannot use the carrion when running audio to my cam. I am assuming it needs an electronic repair...probably something to do with bad shielding on the power input. No way in hell will I send it to Luis for repairs, as it may never come back.

BTW...if you are trying to get ahold of Sinibaldi, try his facebook page. I posted a message there after ranting earlier in this thread, and he actually replied to me. He sent my battery plate back a few days later. You may be able to get him on facebook.

Good luck, and if anyone has any ideas about the monitor interference issue, I am all ears.
